MBK Flipper 125 test

You will love them

Rather Flipper or D’elight? In fact, it will not change anything, or almost. The two models are identical except for the colors and the logo affixed to the dress: Flipper for MBK or Delight for Yamaha. And the two scooters are manufactured in St Quentin en Yvelines for a 125 cm3…. very urban.

The Delight is a 125 scooter with a flat floor and small wheels, for the city and for a rikiki budget. The model is indeed placed under the psychological bar of 2000 euros for the "Japanese" quality and an urban mobility solution at the fairest price..

Discovery

The Delight is elegant with a slender line enhanced by its flat floor, curves and dress. A round / oval headlight, turn signals integrated into the grille and its central tie even give it a very Italian air. Its oblong rear light gives it a little retro touch, ultimately very fashionable. There is a large saddle, which can easily accommodate pilot and passenger. The whole thing offers both a line pleasing to the eye and a nice side with a modern side reinforced by the three-spoke cast alloy wheels..

Technically, there is a tubular frame and a particularly compact 114cc air-cooled (pulsed) 4-stroke single-cylinder that would almost merge with a 50 cm3 rather than a 125 cm3, including taking into account the weight. total of only 98 kilos all full facts.

In the saddle

With a wide saddle, but only 755 mm high, even the smallest riders will be able to put their feet flat on the ground.

A large analog meter with a white background reinforcing the 1960s touch displays the essential information: speed, a totalizer and a fuel gauge. We will appreciate the rewarding but presumptuous 120 km / h displayed.

Hands fall flat on the wide handlebars.

Contact

The single key combines 3 functions: the ignition, opening the fuel flap and the saddle but also the top-case (optional): practical everyday to limit the keys on the keychain.

Small size, you are immediately at ease on your handlebars. An ease of handling that will be even more appreciated by those who approach a 125 cm3 with this model for the first time … because even in hand, it almost looks like a 50 cm3.

On the road

The Delight accelerates slowly, solo and even more so in duet. It’s not a thunderbolt, but at least we can accelerate with a grip on the cleat without risk. It is not just in terms of line and size that the model is smaller than it seems. This is also true of performance. Because if the scooter reaches 60 km / h relatively easily, it needs a little momentum – and time – to reach 70 km / h in duo but still 80 km / h solo, or even a little more , well launched and downhill. It’s not extraordinary, but it’s flexible and efficient, especially in the city where we are always too fast anyway..

The torque is on the other hand well placed with its 7.6 Nm at 5,550 rpm, allowing all the power to be used at standard speeds. The Delight is 7.3 horsepower, down from the nearly 15 horsepower of some 125cc; this explaining that.

Yamaha D'elight 125 in town

A recent test carried out in an on-board computer test showed that over a 30-minute journey, the average speed was 30 km / h. And in fact, we adapt very well to this rhythm. Acceleration is sufficient at a red light to clear ahead of traffic. And then, the minimum template allows you to squeeze through any mouse hole without thinking about it. The braking is up to the expectations of the model, progressive and without violence but sufficient to stop safely with its single front disc and rear drum.

Comfort

The Delight is very comfortable, whether solo or in duo, including on Parisian cobblestones and a little bumpy roads. This is certainly one of its strengths, perfectly erasing the defects of the road …. this thanks in particular to its new progressive rear suspension with its soft pivot. In comparison, the Xmax 125 is a piece of wood. Your spine will greatly appreciate this comfort.

The retractable footrests are perfect for securing the feet of the passenger (or the passenger).

Convenient

The trunk under the saddle offers space for a jet helmet…. and do not try to fit a full, even a small one. On the other hand, there is still a little room to accommodate a few more small items. In fact, with its large floor and especially its front bag hook, you will carry the shopping bags in the front. And there is plenty of space there.

Consumption

Yamaha has done a lot of work on injection with their in-house system called YMJET-FI. The latter improves the vaporization of the fuel-air mixture for better combustion, reinforced by an auxiliary air intake inlet next to the main air intake inlet. The whole offers a very reasonable average consumption of 2 liters per hundred. And with a 4.4-liter tank, the whole thing offers a sufficient range of more than 220 kilometers…. largely sufficient for its use.

Yamaha D'elight 125

Conclusion

Friendly, efficient, the Delight is a real urban choice for a global mobility solution at a very low price: from the 1.999 euros for the model – cheaper than a Piaggio Fly 125 but more expensive than a Vision 110 – up to the offer of 90 € insurance per year and reduced consumption. There is even a 60-euro LOA solution which places it at the same price as the orange card but with individual autonomy. All you have to do then is choose the color: white, black or bronze and the essential accessories such as the top case and a possible bubble for an additional touch of look.
