Suzuki Address test

Menus

There is the motorcycle and then there is the scooter for purely urban use. We are looking for the small inexpensive machine, practical with all the same a little potato to make a little occasional peri-urban and therefore a 125 cm3. But small and cheap does not necessarily mean having to fall back on an unknown brand with a reduced dealer network.. The major manufacturers have also seen the market and developed a specific offer with models below the psychological bar of 2000 euros. Suzuki thus launched the Address, a small 125 scooter in this movement. Ideal for the city and at the height of its price? Daily test…

Front face

Discovery

Small, compact, elegant …. The Address is closer to a 50cm3 in terms of size, which is also confirmed by its weight under 100 kilos, at 97 kilos: a featherweight! Nothing reminds us that it is indeed a 125 cm3 or more exactly a 113 cm3. The fine grille and the overall look is almost Italian even with this wide tie on the bow framed by the two huge turn signals.

Suzuki Side Address

The very flat floor is reminiscent of Italian scooters. It offers a large space for the feet and allows to accommodate a good bag for transport.

However, the saddle is double and long to accommodate driver and passenger. The whole thing ends with a fine and elegant light at the back.

Note the parking brake, available via a lug on the left lever. It is exceptional to have a parking brake on a 125, the system of which appears quite simple here by "simply" using the brake lever itself. Above all, it is very efficient and allows parking on a slope, even on the side stand..

The finish is at the rendezvous, from the quality of the plastics, to the small flashing water drop lights at the rear or the commodos. We are really at a level of finish to which the Japanese have accustomed us and it is appreciable, especially in this price category.

In the saddle

With a saddle at only 755mm, the 1.60m rider finds his place on board, with his feet flat. The handlebars fall naturally under the hands with a pleasant and instinctive position while the feet barely rise to rest on the floor. Two storage compartments frame the steering axis and allow you to place small baubles; but open, they will be reserved for those who do not fear the rain. However, they can accommodate a small bottle of water or a can.

600 ml and 500 ml pockets respectively

Price requires, the meter is reduced to its simplest expression with a speedometer integrating a simple totalizer. No partial trip, but a fairly precise fuel gauge … Then there are the mandatory direction change indicators as well as an engine and oil warning light..

Contact

Hand on the brake handle, side stand folded (safety requires) the small mono 4-stroke 113 cm3 snorts gently. The two-wheeler reacts instantly to throttle and takes off smoothly, aided by a truly enjoyable CVT continuously variable transmission.

In the city

A bike. We often find this expression to emphasize maneuverability. With its small size, the Address sneaks in at the slightest mouse turn. Interfiles are therefore naturally particularly easy, but even more so, it is possible to squeeze 90 ° between cars with a handlebars and a very short turning radius. With your feet flat to catch up with a slow maneuver, any maneuver is light and effortless. A little gas and it starts again to exit with elegance and facilitates the flow of traffic. The acceleration is not daunting and we feel the limit of xx ponies, but it is fluid and pleasant and more than enough in town. It is always useful to remember that with an on-board computer, the average speed in town is 30 km / h on average and the Address’s power is more than enough to escape all situations..

Suzuki Address on the road

Highway

The Address sets off gently on the motorway to naturally reach 90km / h. Well launched and with a little wind helping on a straight line in significant variation, it is even possible to go for a small 110 km / h. Like what the mill is after all voluntary. But as soon as the straight line turns into a false flat, the speed drops to 90km / h, or even 80km / h in the event of a slightly steeper climb. We are a little limited here to consider long motorway journeys but within the limit of small peri-urban journeys, between a Paris and an airport ‘this is still possible from time to time, especially since it offers excellent stability at its maximum speed , especially given his size which could make fear the worst.

Departmental

The Address is naturally more at ease once back on a slower route and less likely to be overtaken by trucks. The handling is at the rendezvous and we can totally improvise the sequence of virolos so the scooter is handled with ease. In fact, control relies more on full throttle, all the time, so as not to force the mill to decelerate to accelerate again, knowing that it always takes a little time to regain its full reach..

Comfort / Duo

We immediately find our place and our ease on the scooter, both solo and duo. The saddle is comfortable and the suspensions even more, making it possible to erase the defects of the roadway and to absorb the lying gendarmes with ease. A faultless therefore which places it among the most comfortable scooters without pumping or unstable behavior.

Braking

With a single disc at the front, you might think that the braking is limited but it is not. On the contrary, the braking is largely up to the speed of the scooter, offering feeling, efficiency and endurance on a daily basis. Better still, by really taking the two levers, it is possible to stop very short but without violence, thus also offering an ease of handling that is quite adjustable..

Single front disc brake

Convenient

The two half-liter storage compartment at the front offer a little space, but the practicality is mainly based on the flat floor which allows a large bag to be loaded, especially with the help of the hook.

The trunk under the saddle offers 20.6 liters, just the possibility of placing a jet and rain pants, or even a small integral. On the other hand, a large modular does not fit or more exactly fits but does not allow the saddle to be closed..

Place to put a small integral but not a modular

Many 125 scooters only offer a side stand. The Address offers both a lateral and a central stand. Lightweight, you barely have to press the stand to easily mount the scooter.

We retain once again, the ingenious parking brake, which very few 125 scooters have.

Consumption

Suzuki announces a range of 250 kilometers with a minimum consumption of 2.04 l / 100 km (official WMTC measurements). In reality, we tickle the handle a little with a lot of stops in town with a consumption closer to 2.3 l / 100 km. Suddenly, the Address switches to reserve after 160 km, rather allowing a range of 200 km depending on driving with its 5.2-liter tank. It is just that from 170 km, the gauge is in the red below the "reserve" part and gives the impression that there is no more margin while there is still a good thirty kilometers of autonomy.

Conclusion

The Address is a good surprise, especially in relation to its low price, almost unbeatable. Because necessarily, the concept also exists at Yamaha with the D’elight or at Piaggio with the Fly. In the end, with almost equal services, the look will be the key factor in the choice unless it is the reception and the quality of the dealer who will make the offer..

Strong points

  • agility, lightness
  • braking
  • comfort
  • consumption

  1. Fabulous…

I think this tire is fabulous. I just changed my Pilot Road3s to Pilot Power 3s on an ER-6F, and the change is extraordinary. These are my first non-touring tires (I’ve had roadsmart IIs and PR3s), and they inspire confidence, gave the bike much more stability in turns..

It’s simple: I have had them since yesterday (80 km done with) and while, leek that I am, I had a small cm of fear band on each side, I have already touched the edges on the new one. tire, on my usual route.

No feeling of "falling" on the angle, on the other hand, very comfortable feeling of grip. A delight.

Obviously, not yet tried in the rain.

  2. After 6000km (ER-6F), including 250 on the track, I had to change the rear tire, arrived at the witnesses on the sides – I’m lucky to live in a corner where we don’t spend our time on the tracks fast.

The tire has been flawless throughout. When I saw that I had done 8000km with a pilot road3, and 6500 with the original roadsmart II, I put back a pilot power 3 this morning.

I have never felt any weakness in the grip, nor any strange behavior from wear. He supported me well throughout his life, and always gave confidence before being changed. I think when they are witnesses they are still far from dead.

In the wet, the grip was very good too, I had tried to trigger the ABS on the ordinary coating (not the white lines, eh?) With the front, without success. Obviously, I don’t take too much angle in the rain (the edges are slick), but I never had any problems. So I see little interest in Pilot Road 3 (for me anyway).

(I have no shares at Michelin).
