Suzuki VL 800 VOLUSIA 2005

The Suzuki custom lineup says goodbye to 800 Marauder. In its place slips the new Volusia, in reference to a corner of Florida where we find in particular Daytona Beach. For the line, no miracle recipe if it is not the adoption of the canons in force. Inspired by the Low Rider style, one has the impression of being in the presence of an already known model; and for good reason: it is almost a photocopy (in a little smaller) of the Intruder 1500. That does not prevent to appreciate it, with its big headlight, its imposing mudguards, the big fork and the alluring chrome. Both beautiful and healthy, its line is harmonious and elegant. Too bad the plastic lower part of the swingarm tarnishes the picture. To want to do too much…
To move, the Volusia uses the mechanics of the Marauder. A water-cooled 52 hp twin with an air-cooled look and whose final transmission is provided by a cardan shaft. Discreet, flexible, with a homogeneous power curve, it is not lazy but seems less swift than its competitors.

Born to cruiser, it is with great satisfaction that we go for a relaxed ride without the slightest stress. The machine helps a lot. Very smooth gearbox and transmission, generous saddle, efficient suspensions, not too typical driving position and more than adequate comfort … Happiness. We would have liked a few more horses and more ground clearance. Especially since the chassis would allow much more fun. Good brakes and good quality equipment (dashboard with meter and warning lights stuck in the tank) further enhance the whole. A touch of originality would have been welcome but even without that, it looks very classy on the edges of an east coast beach.
