Suzuki 1300 GSX-R Hayabusa 2002

Archetype of excess, the Hayabusa is one of the most incredible devices on the planet. It is above all the fastest production motorcycle in the world. Very aerodynamically worked (which gives it this particular look), the missile is able to exceed the wall of 300 km / h. Its enormous boiler develops 175 hp and its torque peaks at 14 mkg – a monster. Very flexible, the 4-cylinder is a treat on all speed ranges; and totally demonic at the top of the tachometer. In acceleration as in times, it is quite simply madness, furious and intoxicating. We enjoy this engine with inexhaustible and particularly expressive breath. On the track as on the road, the chassis is impressive in terms of agility and liveliness compared to the size and weight of the machine. Ground clearance is SUZUKI 1300 GSX-R HAYABUSAhowever too limited: with a bleeding attack on the circuit, although the “hawk” readily lends itself to the exercise, the footrests taste, the fairing is scraped and the alternator housing pulls the mouth. Even reduced to 100 hp on French soil, the bike remains very appreciable, especially thanks to its large torque and its suspensions which maintain comfort on the forgotten roads of the DDE. Too bad the protection is too limited; In order to find maximum speed, the engineers have created a real ground-to-ground plane but the pilot begins to suffer from 160 km / h – high bubble recommended if you drive for more than an hour on each exit. If the machine attracts you but you are keen to keep your pretty pink paper, know that at the bottom of a second, you already have no license left. !

Thursday 1:30 p.m. The sun has been shining on the region for a month and we still don’t walk around in a T-shirt (because of the damn wind), but in a jacket and helmet. Mollo because our friends the “smurfs” keep watch with their magic binoculars. To stay in tune with the measures of our beloved Minister, let us welcome the imminent arrival of spring by the provocative 1300 GSX-R – the Hayabusa, the machine of superlatives that we no longer present. The first that brought down the wall of 300 km / h! It has regained its voice by the adoption of two Micron exhausts which add a handful of cannons to the 175 which are already growling in the mill..

Even at a standstill, the beast impresses: provocative, bestial, lines which shocked and which do not make it look like any other, a timeless facies … crazy thing? Surely … something for me then. We will see. Installation: no surprise – sitting on a saddle not too firm, legs bent but not excessively, the bust leaning forward, the position is sport in the spirit of speed but not as uncomfortable as the beast suggests. We are very far from the picked up position of a hypersport. The dashboard is full of good ol ‘analog dials that will definitely be gone in the next generation. These are still perfectly informative but only look a bit dated. Engine – Start! BBBBbbbrrrraaaooouuuu … The big 4-legged has a voice, we feel that there are people in there. First turns of the wheels and enchantment. The mechanics are flexible, as are the controls which immediately put you at ease. Clutch, throttle, brake, gearbox; everything inspires pleasure … what a trap. Taken into the city, the machine is not at ease but can be walked around without flinching … you quickly realize that you have to get out of there! No sooner said than done. Once on the road, the ‘hawk’ is revealed: horizon clear: vvvvooouuuuRRRRRRRBBBBBBBBRRRROOAAAOOOUUUGGGG !!!!!!! Ouhla, it grows! 2nd level: 5000 – 8000, there, it starts to be dangerous. ‘we realize that the nice big cat has fired a hose and has become a wild feline. Much more demonstrative than the block the CBR XX, he is mean and becomes demonic at the 3rd level: 8 – 11,000: c’ is madness. The feline has become a monster and your guts are asking for help. Well wedged on the machine, you have to be damn turned on to push such a fury into its entrenchments. 190 in seconds, believe me, that calms !

I would always make the same criticism at Suzuki: braking. OK, it’s powerful, but singularly lacking in bite (luckily, it looks like things are changing in 2003). And always the same joy of handling the box: always a treat at Suz: real butter.

Reading the figures – 220 kgs dry, 175 hp – we could expect a physical machine to swing in the virolos … nay! It does not of course have the agility of an R6, but it engages with ease in the turn and swings with a lightness (which one did not expect from such a big liner) of a virolo to the other, the weight disappearing thanks to a marvel of chassis and a phenomenal torque. Apart from in town where every fitting and sewer plate manifests itself on your forearms, the suspensions are totally forgotten and leave you free to concentrate on the asphalt tape, the machine reacting with serenity. But beware, with a tank truck wheelbase, a supermotard will knock you out of the bends of a small mountain road. Come on, don’t be afraid: you will eat it in less than 2 in the straight line … until the next virolo !
