Suzuki GSF 600 Bandit N and S 2003

The 600 Bandit is a real jackpot for Suzuki, monopolizing the head of motorcycle sales. For 2000, we do not change a winning team, we improve it. Although refined with more modernism, the general appearance does not change radically, except on the S version whose fork crown, pretty and an aggressive hair, brings a real personality and a very effective protection. The new tapered frame houses the same oil-cooled 4-cylinder from the older generation GSX-R. It gains 4 hp more than the old Bandit and has been slightly reworked to bring more vitality at mid-range.

Essay by Renald:

Fancy quiet walks? Arousal or adrenaline rush? Look no further, the bandit is here to satisfy your desires. Very easy to learn, ideal for progressing without skipping steps and all for a very reasonable budget.

As for the engine, the bandit is aptly named, the power is very adequate, especially if you are a beginner. The 78 horsepower of its good old oil / air cooled 4 cylinder will not stop surprising you. Hollow at low speed due to its slight lack of torque (small handicap intelligently revised by Suzuki on the 2005 model), the bandit shows his other face at 6,000 rpm or the thrust arrives and ends up stretching quite hard until the red zone perched at 12,000trs.

Of course, speed is not its vocation (even if it can tow you up to 220 km / h in origin, 240 with a devil magnum), the same with arson. The bandit is the one who asks to roll up and not to attack, his shock absorber is stiff and he tends to take badly on bumpy roads (even slightly) and in the bends the cornering is quite tricky with the lack of experience. You will understand, small walks and long trips will be more appreciable, but a few changes would not be too much. Indeed a windshield or a fork crown would tire the pilot less, especially on motorways or, past 120 km / h, it is difficult to resist in the upright position, vibrations are felt around 150 km / h, the saddle is quite hard and a comfort saddle would not be a luxury, after 200 km, you and your passenger no longer feel your buttocks. As for the brakes, it’s not biting, but it brakes very well and without pulling the handle fully.

Design wise, the Bandit doesn’t look aggressive or angry but does have the beauty of a traditional roadster. A small dose of chrome, an engine in the same tone, a fully painted frame and the good old round headlight at the front.

But if that doesn’t suit you, there is always room to spruce it up, like this one. After all, one of the peculiarities of a roadster is that it is totally predisposed to tuning.
The instrument panel also remains in the traditional spirit, namely, 2 analogue meters for speed and engine rpm, a digital dial which has 2 partial trips, a mileage counter and the time. The basic indicator lights are located in the middle of the dials (turn signals, neutral, full headlight and oil indicator.

As for maintenance, it is a regular maintenance that it is better to do either even as far as possible, namely an oil change with change of the oil filter every 6000 km (by doing it yourself). even it costs you 45 euros against 140 at Suzuki), replacement of the spark plugs every 12,000 kms, change of the air filter every 18,000 kms and adjustment of the valve clearances every 24,000 kms.

The bandit remains a very good roadster which not only has the reputation of being indestructible, but is just as well one of the typical bikes for initiation to piloting, very appreciable driving pleasure, a decent budget and all that at an unbeatable price.
