Suzuki GSF 650 Bandit N and S 2006

CBF 600, Fazer, Z 750, Hornet, ZR-7, SVN … The bandit no longer counts the tease girls with whom she has to compete in the mid-capacity roadster market. It is still at the top of sales in France but is starting to age. A little facelift will only do him good. Suzuki is working on this for the 2005 livery and intends to take advantage of it to remedy its main flaw: its too hollow character at low and mid-range. How do you get there? With a new engine ?
Oh no. It’s still the good old oil and air cooled block that occupies the GSF’s double tubular cradle frame. But for the occasion, its displacement increased to 656 cm3 by an increase of 3 mm of the bore. The power remains at 78 cannons while the couple gains 1 mkg obtained at a lower speed of 2000 rpm compared to the old block. This is much to improve driving pleasure.
Aesthetically, the N roadster only benefits from slight alterations. A small cowling ensures the connection between the headlight and the counters, scoops are housed between the radiator and the tank, the exhaust is no longer bevelled, the rear shell is refined and the side covers (behind the carbs) modified. The most obvious changes are the new saddle which can now be adjusted in height and the appearance of an ABS. For the road S, the fork crown receives a new optics and new mirrors.

Do not think that Suzuki was satisfied with a stroke of black paint on the engine and a pot of yogurt with extra cubic capacity to renew its bestseller. The old block of the old GSX-Rs has not finished its career, far from it. And its latest modifications give it a few more years of sunshine. In addition to the increased bore, the liners receive a special treatment, the pistons and rings are revised, and the new distribution diagram takes care of improving the torque at the usual speeds..
10 years are worth celebrating, and the Bandit 650 blows out its candles by sweeping the performances of its grandmother. In the game of times (cruel for the 4-cylinder “mid-size”), the 650 leaves the 600 in place. At any speed, the GSF 2005 happily takes off. When the old sorrow, the new flies away. You just have to settle on the last report and screw in to see the enormous difference. The 650 responds from 3000 rpm, making you feel that it has a lot more trunk. The Bandit 2000-2004, it is desperately trying to find watts. Waste of time, she only has it in the towers.

SUZUKI GSF 650 BANDITAnd even in the surges of the tachometer, the 2005 has no lesson to be learned. It offers the same power as the 600 but the maximum torque is greater and available much earlier. Result, an engine much more pleasant, rounder and less aggressive, although still angry when approaching the red zone. The Suz roadster is already gaining valuable points.
And it drives the point home when it comes to handling. The fork looks the same but it has changed a lot in the tubes. Better management of the hydraulics, adjustment of the preload, optimization of the springs, the old Bandit is disgusted; she has just received the coup de grace. With her front axle lacking in firmness and which cannot bear to grow old, she knows that she cannot struggle. No mercy for the croissants ! The Bandit 650 is toned, sure of its more rigorous front where a sport shoe hangs. Chipotons: the new GSF is a little less alert due to a slightly higher front tire, but it makes up for it with its much better stability, its braking which finally found bite (eh, Miss SV, blow up your pads and your discs ..!), and its very good pneumatic mounting.
If the Suz makes efforts by offering an adjustable saddle and handlebars, we can find it a shame the disappearance of the beautiful chrome counters. The new ones, even if the law is entirely digital, do not generate as much enthusiasm.

With a fuller engine and improved dynamics, the Suzuki GSF 650 intends to keep its place in the top sales in France. Not only is it looking good, but with a price that barely exceeds 6,000 €, the Bandit will most certainly continue its hold-up..
