Suzuki VZ 1600 MARAUDER 2004

As everyone has released his big custom with the oversized twin, Suz takes the train on the way but has less broken the head: his new 1600 Marauder is quite simply the brother of the Kawa 1600 Mean Streak. Recall that Suzuki and Kawasaki had recently concluded a partnership allowing synergies in the products of the 2 factories.. Well, it’s not quite its twin: the rear mudguard and the headlight are different, the price is too; within 300 €. You will be entitled on the Suzuki to an original and refreshing blue color. Aside from these family ties, the big Marauder has something to seduce: a big injected twin, a cardan transmission, and an inverted fork with huge brake discs. The ricans will be happy with all these customs that will land on the new continent.

But faced with the giants who have just made their mark, the game becomes tight. The Kawa VN 2000 and Triumph Rocket III play in excess, and would make the Marauder 1600 appear to be a reasonable machine. Like any custom, the Marauder requires time to adapt. Feet forward, large handlebars, it’s typical, and confusing for the neophyte.
This twin may be larger than Harley’s twin cam, but it is much more discreet. To believe that the exhausts fell into a pot of anti-noise standards when they were small. Even the cavalry went through the wisdom box. The power is there without jostling frantically in the pistons. It must be said that the long gear ratios sanitize the character a little, for the benefit of more smoothness. a box where the selection is somewhat to be reviewed. The gimbal that accompanies it shows great discretion.
Cruising enthusiasts will not have much to complain about the Marauder. The rear damping works well while the fork pleasantly combines precision of guidance and softness in cushioning. An unforeseen obstacle? A good bit of conviction on the brake levers and you stop the custom without problem.
Not so long ago, this 1600 would have been talked about more. The competition has drawn stronger and the echoes carry far. This is no reason to shun the Marauder, may be less exceptional but surely more suited to the market.
