Production started

Content of

The Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati brings an extreme version of the Panigale V4. The Superleggera is still located above the V4R. Only 500 copies are built. Production of the Supersport rocket has now started in June 2020.

The top of the Panigale V4 family is currently the V4R, which also serves as the homologation model for the Superbike World Championship. With 998 cubic meters, the V4R has an output of 221 hp and a weight of 193 kilos (ready to drive). Their price is 39,900 euros. There is even more potential in the Panigale V4. As a basic model for racing, the V4R is limited by the regulations to a price of no more than 40,000 euros. Accordingly has D.ucati has not put everything into this model that is feasible, only that which is useful for racing. But we know from experience that Ducati customers like to dig deep into their pockets when they can purchase an absolutely exclusive model of the red one. Accordingly, Ducati will push a Superleggera variant of the Panigale V4, which can carry everything that is good and expensive.

There is a lot of MotoGP in the Superleggera

In both models, everything that is good and expensive includes carbon components. This includes the streamlined fairing, which is said to offer an aerodynamic efficiency that matches and even exceeds that of current MotoGP machines. For the Biplane wings on the side of the full fairing, derived from the Desmosedici GP16, the Italians promise a downforce of 50 kg at 270 km / h, 20 kg more than the wings of the Panigale V4 and V4 R. The carbon with laminated aluminum elements is also made of carbon Main frame, the rear frame and the single-sided swing arm. The five-spoke wheels on which Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP tires are mounted are also made of carbon fiber laminate.

Up to 234 hp available

The paintwork of the carbon fiber fairing, which combines the red of the GP19 with bare carbon, is also derived from the MotoGP machine. The real highlight of the Superleggera lies under this carbon skin – the Desmosedici Stradale R engine, which is lighter and more powerful than ever before. The 998 cm³ 90-degree V4 that powers the Superleggera V4 weighs 2.8 kg less than the 1,103 cm³ V4. In the street version with an approved Akrapovic exhaust, 224 hp rage here at 15,250 tours and 118 Nm at 11,750 rpm. If the titanium racing exhaust and the supplied racing kit are installed, an incredible 234 hp at 15,500 rpm and 120 Nm at 11,750 rpm should be available.

The kit also includes a special, exclusive engine calibration for the racing exhaust, which also gives the driver access to a "RaceGP ad enables. This is intended exclusively for use on the racetrack and was developed with valuable suggestions from Andrea Dovizioso. It is a direct offshoot of the Desmosedici GP20’s cockpit instrument.

159 kg dry weight

Another core competence of the Superleggera is weight optimization. Thanks to the extensive use of carbon fiber, titanium and machine-milled aluminum components, the Superleggera V4 has a dry weight of only 159 kg (16 kg less than the Panigale V4). Its power-to-weight ratio is 1.41 HP / kg. If the complete racing kit is installed, the weight drops to 152.2 kg and the power-to-weight ratio improves to 1.54 hp / kg.

Further equipment features of the Superleggera V4 include a lighter Ohlins chassis with pressure fork and a Brembo brake system with Stylema R brake calipers. In addition, the latest generation electronics package includes the EVO 2 strategies for DTC and DQS up / down as well as three programmed driving modes (Race A, Race B and Sport). There are also five other driving modes on board, which can be freely configured. A data recording records lap times and driving data.

Buyers receive exclusive packages

Only 500 copies of the Ducati Superleggera V4 will be built. Of course, they all carry a sticker with the serial number. But it can be even more exclusive. As part of an SBK Experience event, all buyers have the opportunity to test drive the Panigale V4 R from the Superbike World Championship. It will be even more exclusive for the 30 customers who buy the limited MotoGP Experience package at a price of around 4,000 euros. They are even allowed to test drive the current MotoGP bike under supervision. The dates for this are July 9th and 28th, 2020. Driving is in Mugello. Each customer is allowed a maximum of four laps in the saddle of the MotoGP machine, but only if they are physically classified as suitable, are between 25 and 60 years old and have the appropriate body mass index (BMI).

The specially made Dainese Airbag racing suit and a special Arai carbon helmet that are purchased with the motorcycle look almost boring.

Ducati

The Superleggera was originally to be built from April 2020 and delivered from May 2020. Due to the Corona crisis, however, the start of production has been postponed a little. According to Ducati, production should start in June 2020. It should therefore not be long before the first copies are delivered. Only 5 should be built a day. The price quoted is 100,000 euros. The 1299 Superleggera cost around 80,000 euros at the time.
