Motoplaner stops
Route planning tool stops operating

At motoplaner.de, motorcyclists could plan routes free of charge and export them for use on their satnav. On May 25, 2018, the developer will shut down the popular portal. In addition to a really detailed justification, it also provides a solution for previous users.

An online tour planner for motorcyclists, easy to use and free of charge – that was the goal of Denny Rieche, developer and operator of motoplaner.de. Now the portal is switched off and an outcry goes through the scene.

Solution and / or alternative for users

The reassuring news for all users: All MPJS files (Motoplaner’s own format) and route links that were previously created using the “Share” function should continue to be usable. The developer of motoplaner.de, according to his own statements, has again exchanged views with one of the operators of kurviger.de and decided to “forward all remaining traffic from motoplaner.de to kurviger.de after it has been switched off”. An import option for MPJS files should already be available on kurviger.de, the two are still working on the “forwarding + evaluation of the Motoplaner route links”. “Until the shutdown of Motoplaner on May 25th. but the functionality should be available. This means that users – apart from the simple and efficient usability of Motoplaner – should not lose any data due to the closure of Motoplaner, says Denny Rieche from motoplaner.de on his website.

Reasons for the shutdown

It will probably be a good three and a half Word pages that the operator of motoplaner.de has filled in to explain to users why he decided to switch it off:

1. From June 11, 2018, the Google map material will be chargeable. “For Motoplaners this would mean (…) daily costs in the 3-digit range,” writes the operator.

2. The European GDPR, which comes into force on May 25, 2018. For a lone warrior, the new General Data Protection Regulation creates “a serious time problem”. Furthermore, it says on motoplaner.de: “I will ALL be made available by myself free of charge & crush well-kept online offers. I will also give up my independence. Tabularasa. The day only has 24 hours. Love it, change it or leave it. “

3. “Internet and human distance” is the title of the third reason for the shutdown. An excerpt of the detailed explanation as follows:

The unconscious psychological experiment with many thousands of contacts over the years, the personal insights gained from it, on the one hand leave behind vast numbers of positive experiences, amazing experiences in every respect. On the other hand, they make me want to completely withdraw from the Internet as a content producer.

For some people, the distance on the Internet is simply too small to be respectful and friendly with the other person. In regular life, figuratively call me someone “asshole”, then in most cases it is probably time to reflect on your own behavior. On the Internet, the distance is apparently so small that some people can think of such things with astonishing ease over the lips – or the keyboard.

4. “Old technology”: Since motoplaner.de is based on technology ten years old, the developer sees an urgent need for action in this area, but no time for implementation.

5. “Elbows & Audacity everywhere ”: This point deals with what the developer and operator of motoplaner.de experienced on the subject of theft of ideas. An excerpt: “The self-service mentality of some online providers (…) has meanwhile become sufficiently hostile to me personally.”

6. Time: “The operator says: “Job + daily travel times of up to 4 hours left little room for anything. (…) I am currently unable to devote the time that would be necessary to Motoplaners (2-3 months full-time at a time). “
