Triumph 800 STREET TRIPLE R 2017

Agile, nervous, rewarding…. The Street Triple 675 with its rounded double optics and whistling three-cylinder, has long been the disturbing little fly that annoys Japanese industry. In the light of history, by its parasitic whirling, it holds the British revenge. With this new version, which adapts to the generalized increase in engine capacity instigated by the Japanese, the buzz will continue.

Which is great news! Especially when the three of them land and the vengeful swarm arrives in formation. It will sting. We will focus here on the R version, a mid-range stuck between the cheap version, S, and the ultimate RS. The novelties are numerous, starting with the engine which goes from 675 cm3 to 765 cm3. Yes, the 7 and the 6 have been reversed, and that changes a lot of things! Precisely a gain of 90 cm3 which offers on this version 118 hp at 12,000 rpm, for a torque of 77 Nm at 9,400 rpm – i.e. a gain of 5 hp compared to the 765 S … and 12 hp since the 675 – Well, certainly, the inversion of the first two digits of the cubic capacity is not the only one responsible for this evolution. We also owe this progress to more than 80 new parts including a new crankshaft. Special attention has been paid to low revs. In their favor, the gearbox has been revised, the first two reports will pull shorter. Ideal for giving it a voice. Moreover, for vocalizations, Triumph uses a new air box, as well as a new exhaust system approved Euro 4 and lighter.

Obviously, a new wind tunnel would be nothing without a suitable electronic reinforcement. Also the little Englishwoman is equipped with all the contemporary necessities. Namely: an electronic accelerator and 4 driving modes: Rain, Road, Sport, and Rider, the last being fully customizable. As well as a disconnectable traction control, well assisted in its task by an anti-dribble clutch. The receptacle for all this electronic wave is the new 5 ”color TFT instrument panel. Its display, sublime and modern, is adjustable and varies according to the driving mode selected. The “Sport” and “Track” modes highlight the tachometer and gear indicator, while the “Road” and “Rain” mode displays emphasize the speedometer. This little gem of technology is also very well supplied. It includes a gear indicator, a fuel gauge, fuel consumption, range, choice of display type, contrast setting, maintenance information, and finally the engine temperature. All that’s missing is the chronometer, exclusive to the RS version.

The chassis is also evolving to suit the ensemble. Already an example of rigor and liveliness, the frame remains unchanged, the swingarm is brand new. The longitudinal torsion is better while the lateral stiffness has been decreased. It is accompanied by a new fork signed Showa, inverted and adjustable. The rear shock absorber, from the same OEM, is also adjustable. Regarding the build of the new Street, no slimming cure in sight, but Triumph still achieved the small feat of containing the mass despite the increased displacement. On the scale it goes from 183kg for the old 675, to 183.4kg for the 765. A trifle in short. The most delicious are undoubtedly the Brembo radial calipers M 4.32 with 4 pistons.

The new design is also an invitation to lick your fingertips. Starting with the new radiator scoops making it more greedy and LED lights which make it sparkle … with a thousand lights. Supported by a new fork crown, inspired by that of the Speed, the bike is extremely more precious and refined. The curve of the rear frame remains essentially the same, except for the lined saddle, exacerbating the sportiness of the line. This excess of care will cut to the most delicate, but also to the most delicate, which will benefit from an LRH option, for Low Ride Height, offering suspensions and a lowered seat configuration. Three colors will be available: Jet black or shiny black, Crystal white with a white predominance and red finishes, as well as Matt Aluminum Silver, be a matt gray.
