Triumph 900 Street Scrambler 2017

The platform of the Street Twin brought a nice revival to the Classic range of Triumph. It’s the Scrambler’s turn to take advantage of it. Figure of the all-terrain world of yesteryear (when trails did not yet exist), this Triumph wraps up the renewal of the family and says goodbye to the 800/865 Bonneville generation. In addition to its more modern overall design, the 900 Scrambler benefits from some technical specificities in addition to its marked style. Rediscovering the genre and the model.

To simplify as much as possible, the Scrambler is a Bonneville to which we have grafted a high exhaust line. Here, the position and style of the appendages are even more marked. If the Street Twin clearly affirms its side pleasure and walk, the Scrambler poses a squat more plumb, that would not deny the dung as well as the hunters of clods of earth. With its double tube dressed in openwork covers, the motorcycle seems to carry a machine gun while its engine shoe will help to ward off head shots initiated by stones or sidewalks..
The aspect hits the mark, then the Englishwoman confirms with a series of small details. These include the ribbed Alcantara-effect saddle with contrasting stitching and an embossed Triumph logo, removable footrest plates and passenger seat, knee guards, off-road “wolf trap” type footrests for maximize the grip of the boots (once the rubber part has been removed), the essential spoke rims fitted with Metzeler Tourance enduro / road tires, an oval on the left side of the number plate type airbox, a more headlight support end and some engine badges. The Triumph Scrambler wants to go through soft earth but also (above all?) To flatter the eye with a predisposition to the accessory. The large catalog of 150 accessories is it not a call ?!?

Forget it, because efforts are being made to allow the Street to venture where its first name Scrambler takes it. Although the Street Scrambler has the same fork and shock profile as the Twin, its components are longer in order to increase ground clearance. A wider handlebar, a low seat and more forward footrests modify the driving position, more typical adventure of the paths. The front wheel goes to 19 inches. Braking continues with a 310mm front disc / 2 piston caliper and 255mm disc / 2 piston caliper as well.

The engine is also logically taken from the Twin, which offers a clear technological break with the old 865 cm3 block. In fact, we are still dealing with a twin, 900 cm3 this time, with injection (hidden behind false carbs), ride-by-wire, liquid cooling and a power … in decline. Nothing bad, we go from 59 to 55 horses. What interests us more is the gain in torque. With 8.2 mkg, this Scrambler MKII gains 1.3 mkg, the maximum of which is obtained 1500 very earlier. The machine also knows how to entice young drivers, with the possibility of restraining it in A2.

On the electronic side, we have changed the century. Another profit from the Street Twin. On board the Scrambler, we will therefore use the traction control, the immobilizer by transponder, a USB socket, an LED taillight, a handlebar control for dashboard information, and ‘an ABS. On the Scrambler, the anti-lock brakes are disconnectable, which is not the case on the other models of the Street platform. A very appreciable advantage when the pilot wants to take advantage of his abilities in playful terrain. Note that the traction control is also disconnectable.

More assertive, more rewarding, more technological, the new Street Scrambler clearly eclipses the older generation. We may have moved a little away from the spirit of the TR6 but the machine has undoubtedly more cachet than episode 865 and seems much more rocky than the Street Twin from which it derives.
