Lowes and the Yakhnich team rely on Yamaha !
By bonding for a period of three years with Yamaha, the promising Sam Lowes and the Russian team Yakhnich Motorsport hope to win the World Supersport title in 2013, and intend to move up in the Superbike category thereafter…. Explanations.
A week after Cluzel (read), Sam Lowes in his turn left the Honda PTR / Bogdanka team of Simon Buckmaster … While the English boss – Mister "discoverer of talent" – consoles himself with the signing of young Luca Marconi, Sam is delighted with his new three-year contract with Yamaha !
Third in the 2012 World Supersport Championship behind three-time champion Kenan Sofuoglu and rookie Jules Cluzel, Sam decided to swap his CBR600RR for an R6 prepared by the Russian team who was – and still does – ride Vladimir Leonov.
"I am happy to join the Yakhnich Motorsport Team", said Lowes naturally, because"they give me a fantastic opportunity to race in order to fight for the title in 2013". Kawasaki riders in particular (Sofuoglu and Foret, read) are warned !
"I saw their professionalism and how much their performances improved throughout the 2012 season.", continues the 2010 British Supersport champion,"and that’s why i think i am now in the right place and time to win the championship next year".
A situation which is not unlike that of Chaz Davies in 2011, when Giuliano Rovelli and his Parkingo team decided to put the "official" R6 back on track (read our), winning thanks to it – and to the talent of the Welshman! – no less than six victories in twelve races, two additional podiums and the world title.
Next year, Lowes and Leonov’s team will also receive the "official support of Yamaha Motor Europe but will follow its own technical development", specify the Blues.
"I can’t wait to ride the Yamaha YZF-R6, a very good bike, but I’m also looking forward to working with the Yakhnich team"explained the n ° 11 at the very end of last week. And Sam did not have to wait very long, since he rode yesterday – and today – his new mount on the circuit of Jerez !
Despite the rain, Lowes has already noticed big differences between the Honda and the Yamaha: "she’s cool, i just need to figure her out better but i love herthe Lincoln native tweeted this morning on Twitter.
For his part, the big boss of the Yakhnich team did not hide his joy at having hired one of the best drivers in the World Supersport: "as expected, the squad will be stronger in 2013 with the arrival of a top driver like Sam Lowes. We can get very good results next year in Supersport".
And Alexander Yakhnich does not intend to limit himself to the SSP category: "our goal is to bring our two riders to the highest level, even the Superbike World Championship", launches the Russian!"That’s why we signed a long term contract with them".
Vladimir Leonov – author of two podiums last year – and Sam Lowes – six podiums and two wins – will they win the holy grail of 600 cc in 2013? Will they land in 2014 in Superbike at the controls of a new (?) R1 or will they have to wait until 2015? To find out, only one solution: stay connected on Site !
