The Roman Emperor announced this morning that he would not take part in the 2013 World Superbike campaign ! The two-time WSBK champion and four-time Grand Prix 250 champion bowed out at 41. Ciao Max Biaggi !

The Italian rider – one of the greatest of motorcycle speed! – had made an appointment this Wednesday, November 7 to his fans and the press on the Vallelunga circuit. Quite a symbol, since it was on this track in the north of Rome that Biaggi had made his first rounds on two-wheelers….

After 21 years traveling the globe (15 in Grand Prix between 1991 and 2005, then 6 in World Superbike between 2006 and 2012), Max Biaggi has finally decided to end his career crowned with six world titles: four in a row in GP 250 with Aprilia (1994-1996) then Honda (1997) and two in WSBK, again with the Noale brand in 2010 and 2012.

The famous n ° 3 will ultimately only fail in the premier category: yet second behind Mick Doohan in his first season in 500 cc (1998), Massimiliano never managed to beat Valentino Rossi the following seven years, despite an impressive collection of 58 podiums including 13 victories !

"It has been the longest night of my life, but I’m happy to be going now," Max Biaggi said a few hours ago. "I don’t want to be like those politicians clinging to their armchairs. I thought about it a lot, I wondered for a long time: do I continue for a year, two years, or do I stop ? And then I decided to leave now ".

"My family counted in my decision: I took enough time for my children and my wife, and I think it is right to devote myself to them because time passes and you cannot stop it" , continues Papa Biaggi, who insists that "this day is not sad".

"I stop because I want to and not for lack of competitiveness," rightly underlines the outgoing champion. "I have written important pages in motorcycle history, especially with Aprilia. I am giving up a contract with them identical to that of this year (same money, same motorcycle), but I decline it without regrets".

"I thank all those who have accompanied me during these 20 years", concludes Max. "It was a very difficult choice but it was not dictated by anyone else. Today I am leaving in great health, while others have suffered serious injuries.".

But beware ! Only 41 years old, Max Biaggi is still far from retiring: "I am considering a collaboration with Aprilia off the track, I hope you will hear from me soon" … To be continued on MNC: stay connected !
