WSBK - Max Neukirchner is injured again at Imola tries -

Removed from the circuits since his collision at Monza, Max Neukirchner was impatiently awaiting the Imola tests! Alas, the German damaged four vertebrae following a heavy fall on the second day of the tests and went directly to the hospital…

Brilliant host of the Superbike World Championship last year with two poles, two victories and seven podiums, Max Neukirchner was among the most anticipated protagonists of the 2009 season. Unfortunately, the renowned Alstare team seems to have all the trouble in the world to put the 2009 Suzuki GSX-R: since the start of the season, Neukirchner and his teammate Kayagama have been subjected to the law of the Ducati, Yamaha and now Honda back to the fore.

Frustrated, the young German driver thought he would get his revenge on the Monza circuit which requires heart and engine, which neither the driver nor the machine lack! A good start in the first round, the n ° 76 will however be violently mown by Brendan Roberts from the first chicane (read). Raised with a broken femur and three bones of the leg and foot in pieces, the Suzuki rider can then forget his hopes of the title, his convalescence forcing him to make a cross in five races, or ten races….

Gently resuming his marks recently riding a GSX-R 600, Max had declared himself ready to return to Superbike for the tests last Wednesday and Thursday in Imola (Italy): "can’t wait to get back on the bike and I’m so happy to think I’ll be able to race again !", he rejoiced at the end of his" warming up "on the Sachsenring track…

Unfortunately, it is said that the 2009 season will be one of bad luck and injuries for the native of Stollberg: on the second day of the Italian tests, Neukirchner went off at high speed … Immediately transported to the hospital in Bologna , he was immobilized in the torso to prevent further damage before being transferred to Germany.

"I don’t know why I fell, but I injured myself a little more and have to start the recovery process again before I can get back on the handlebars", confides with annoyance the n ° 76."Yesterday it wasn’t that bad and I showed that I was fit to ride the bike. I was looking forward to spending another day on the track and am really disappointed that I fell. It seems that I have cracked or damaged some vertebrae, so I have to go back to my hospital in Germany. Once this is done, my doctor scheduled a recovery program for me and I would begin rehabilitation. I’ve done this before and I know I can do it again", entrusted with courage Max Neukirchner who will probably be unable to race in Brno this weekend….

A blow for the driver, but also for the team: already, the emblematic team manager Alstare Francis Batta considers that 2009 is a season "to forget"both the descent into hell of his colt – currently 15th in the world ranking – and the lack of performance and consistency of his second pilot Yukio Kagayama (12th) could not be compensated before the end of the championship.

For his part, the British Jonathan Rea (Honda) set off again from Imola testing with the best time (1’48.670): he confirmed the return to business of the CBR Ten Kate ahead of Michel Fabrizio (Ducati), Ben Spies (Yamaha), Lorenzo Lanzi, Tom Sykes (Yamaha) and John Hopkins (Honda).
