New Superpole race: 12 points at stake on Sunday morning in WorldSBK

We finally know all the details concerning the sprint – the "Tissot" Superpole race – which will be contested from 2019 between the two traditional rounds of World Superbike.. The weekend program undergoes some additional adjustments … Explanations.

Exactly two months ago, the organizers of the Superbike World Championship announced the outfit, starting with the 2019 season and during each WorldSBK weekend,. They have just delivered the last details.

This sprint race will be contested every Sunday morning over ten laps: shorter – therefore more intense? -, it will reward the first nine drivers and determine the starting order of the second round, according to the grid system inverted redesigned used since 2017.

The points of the "Tissot" Superpole race – its official name – will be distributed as follows: 12 for the first, 9 for the second, 7 for the third, 6 for the fourth, 5 for the fifth and so on … They will be added to the points awarded at the end of the other two "complete" rounds which, as a reminder, reward the first 15 pilots (25 points, 20, 16, 13, 11, 10, 9, etc.).

First foreseeable consequence of this new formula: the record of points registered in one season, held by Jonathan Rea since 2016, is likely to be exploded … by the ruthless "JR" himself? Site will keep the accounts scrupulously after each race weekend !

The SBK Commission has made further changes to the way the weekends go: "Practice sessions will be reduced from four to three, which means WorldSBK will only have two sessions on Friday. WorldSSP will have no more sessions on Friday. will not be affected (…). Friday’s lap times will not affect qualifying positions, "describe the GOs of WorldSBK.

Three races but only one Superpole

"Saturday will offer a major change as the Tissot Superpole will now become a single qualifying session for all categories". Gone are therefore the "SP1" sessions which showcased the secondary teams: everyone will participate again in the only qualifying session. !
