WSBK - The World Superbike in Qatar, new victim of the coronavirus -

Very hot – borderline feverish? – in Australia, the Superbike World Championship will unfortunately have to take an unforeseen break: like MotoGP, the WorldSBK will not be able to travel to Qatar because of the coronavirus. This second event will have to be rescheduled. Explanations.

There was a time in World Superbike where Corona rhymed with victories and world title: it was in 2005, when Troy Corser was made foam at the controls of his Suzuki GSX-R1000. Today, the coronavirus is destroying the atmosphere and forcing the organizers to stop the championship…

Two days after announcing the cancellation of the Qatari GP for the premier category and the day after the postponement of the GP of Thailand (Moto3, Moto2 and MotoGP), it is no surprise that the International Motorcycling Federation and Dorna WSBK Organization inform us that the second WSBK event in Qatar will not take place as planned in two short weeks.

"Anyone arriving in Doha via a direct flight, or having stayed in this country for the past two weeks, will be placed in quarantine for at least 14 days.".

Impossible under these conditions to maintain the sporting event, "Italy playing a vital role in WorldSBK, both on the track and off". Little consolation for fans excited by the grand opening of the championship last weekend at Phillip Island (Australia): the Losail event is not canceled but postponed. Still to be agreed on a date … Stay tuned !
