Ratthapark Willairot took advantage of Jules Cluzel’s retirement to win in the first World Supersport event held today on his home turf. The Thai beats triple champion Kenan Sofuoglu and another Ninja, Patrick Jacobsen.

Supersport Race

Kyle Smith got off to a good start and got into the wheel of poleman Kenan Sofuoglu. Jules Cluzel is third ahead of Patrick Jacobsen, Lucas Mahias, Ratthapark Wilairot, Lorenzo Zanetti, Roberto Rolfo, Gino Rea, Decha Kraisart, etc. Fabio Menghi (Yamaha n ° 61) falls in the first lap.

Sofuoglu completed the first lap in front of his great rival Cluzel. Smith and Jacobsen compete for third place but local Ratthapark Wilairot is back in the peloton … The # 9 orange Honda reaches the Top 5 in the 2nd lap, while his brother Ratthapong enters the Top 10 !

In the 3rd lap, Smith gave Wilairot his fourth place: the public shouted for joy and encouraged his driver who had just set the fastest time in the race. Ratthapark ends up in Jacobsen’s wheel. Right in front of them, "Julo" Cluzel takes the reins of the race on the 4th lap.

Unable to keep up with the pace of MV Agusta n ° 16, Sofuoglu was passed by "PJ" Jacobsen in the next loop. The American pushes his Ninja and Pirelli to their limits! Despite this, Sofuoglu delays his braking in the last corner, passes in front of Jacobsen but cannot come out correctly..

In the middle of a straight line, in front of crowded stands, Wilairot overtakes the triple Turkish champion! Carried by his public, the Thai overtook Jacobsen a lap later. No.9 is only half a second from Cluzel and pulls away slightly from Jacobsen, Sofuoglu and Smith.

In the background, Lorenzo Zanetti on the second official F3 and Lucas Mahias on his Kawasaki Ponyexpress roll a few lengths apart. Wilairot – n ° 59, black! -, Rolfo, Faccani and Rea complete the Top 10.

In the 8th lap, Lorenzo Zanetti bites past a curb in synthetic grass and immediately loses the front and then the rear of his F3 … Pieces of MV Agusta still litter the track when the five men head pass a lap later.

On the 10th lap, Kyle Smith in turn loses the front, but in the middle of the turn. The Honda Pata rider gave up his fourth place to Sofuoglu who momentarily lost contact with the three leading men. Lucas Mahias climbs to fifth position, but is almost six seconds behind Sofuoglu.

Still in the lead, Jules Cluzel maintains the half-second that separates him from Ratthapark Wilairot. The "Coq Supersportif" improved the lap record in the 12th lap and doubled his lead. Jacobsen and Sofuoglu drive one and two second (s) respectively behind the stage room.

Three laps from the end, the MV Agusta n ° 16 betrays its driver! Jules is enraged because he has to give up a race that he controlled perfectly. Ratthapark Wilairot therefore inherits the first place: his team and the entire public are naturally delighted to see the n ° 9 leading his national race. !

Patrick Jacobsen still rolls in second position but on the last lap, Kenan Sofuoglu shows himself more and more threatening … The Turkish initiates his attack in the last corner, carrying his Kawasaki n ° 54 inside the Kawa n ° 99.

The American comes out a little better than his rival but the small stretch before the finish line does not allow him to get back in front. Wilairot therefore won ahead of Sofuoglu and Jacobsen. Mahais finished fourth at over eight seconds while Wilairot’s brother Ratthapong closes the Top 5 !

Ratthapark takes advantage of his memorable first victory in WSSP to take control of the provisional classification, six points ahead of Kenan Sofuoglu and 11 ahead of Jules Cluzel. Lucas Mahias enters the Top 10 thanks to his very good 4th place, nine points from the Top 5 and 23 from the first place.
