Yamaha 1670 ROAD STAR WARRIOR 2006

It is the revolution among customs. There were already these big machines with imposing molds – often anemic; Now there must be watts. Lots of watts, even if it means adding more cm3. Which builder fired first? Surely the one who has seen the most dragsters in U.S rallies. Is it Honda with its 1800 VTX, or Harley with its amazing V-rod? Unless it was Kawa who set fire to the powder with his 1500 Mean Streak … What importance, as long as we have more for us. In any case, for Yamaha, it is important, and the proof is here, with this impressive Road Star Warrior. A motorcycle that interprets the aesthetic standards of the segment in its own way. Designed in full length, adorned with black and chrome, not shy and even intimidating, the Warrior does not go unnoticed. With his “bad boy” side, we can easily imagine Ice Cube or Vin Diesel on his handlebars looking for bad shots. And uppercuts, the machine has plenty to give. The V2 from the Wild Star inflates to 1670 cm3 by increasing the diameter of its pistons and cylinders by 2 mm. It wins the injection, a good handful of horses and releases more torque than a Hayabusa … but much sooner. And if there was only that … Look question, the Japanese were not in the lace. On the left side points a gaping air inlet intended to cool the cylinders. On the right, it is the armory. The exhaust would be all the rage with the G.I. – a real piece of missile launcher tube. If the machine still looks like a custom, it’s something else if you take a closer look. The frame is the same design as the Wild but in aluminum; it is thus lighter and more rigid. The front axle belongs to another universe. The R1’s inverted fork and calipers, no less. The rear is also not to be outdone, with a swinging arm worthy of a sports car and a LED taillight. Continuation in the ideas at Yam. Their big baby is not only intended to break everything between two red lights but also to offer piloting to the driver.

Green. Bowls that stir are not just beasts of power. The smooth running of the twin combined with the smooth clutch proves that the Warrior knows good manners. However, the twin cylinderYAMAHA 1670 ROAD STAR WARRIOR only needs a crumb of passion to deliver the big potato. A flick of the wrist and the cannonball is gone. No brutality but an immediate reaction embellished with very American-style good vibes. Horses, there are plenty of pistons, and the cavalry sounds the charge at the slightest request.
It is now that the Yam will amaze us the most. With so much power, you want to play on the curves and not just do stop-and-go. And there is no picture: this machine is the sportswoman of customs. Despite its 300 kgs, the agility is bluffing, the handling of the same level and, at the end of the day, you really have to put the angle so that the toe clips rub. It’s a change from the competition where showers of sparks invite themselves at the slightest roundabout.
The one that should not be invited is the driving position. With the arms outstretched, the toe clips well forward, and in the end the back broken in two, we may look like a warrior but we thank the slightest pause. The most annoying is that the suspension comfort is not bad at all.
Yamaha did not present another custom-dragster. The manufacturer has created it more versatile, more sporty, more rigorous in its road behavior than the competition. Still, it will be necessary to savor this pleasure alone (attempting a duet is equivalent to a cause of divorce). And fun, the Road Star Warrior gives you with every stroke of the piston.
