Yamaha MT-125 2020

It’s time to get started on a bike. Not yet the A or A2 license in your pocket? No problem, there is a supply in 125. Do you need something simple to accomplish the essentials in town? YS, CBF, or Mash Seventy will do the trick.
No ? Is it the envy that prevails? A need to have something hairy that seems to bite ?! Good thing, the Yamaha MT-125 receives a big update.

Do you know how the manufacturers go about creating an ultra-sporty roadster? They catch a very violent hypersport, screw it naked, adapt it to road use, and let everything boil in the hands of the pilots. For the youngest of the MT family, it’s the same principle from the bottom of the ladder. Hop, we catch Yam’s little sports car, namely the recently improved YZF-R 125. We drop the trim and see what can be extracted from it to create a new MT-125. No need to pull out molars, because it’s all the face that goes through them.

2020 heralds the new face of the Masters of Torque. The MT-10 had teased this identity, the MT-09 II underlined it, the MT-07 should soon seize it … For the moment, it is the MT-03 II which received great scalpel strokes on the ganache. The little MT does exactly the same with slender eyes set in a delicately aggressive fork crown. Owl or alas, we are entitled to the same luminous cyst instead of the mouth. With new better integrated air intake scoops, inspired by the first MT-09, a redesigned tank (1.5 liters less capacity) and a less heavy belly pan, the Yam gains in slenderness. She looks like a ballerina … not for the opera; to attend a Batman concert.
The rear part is also revised. Completely. This is no longer a sporty posterior but a real roadster rear end, with a one-piece saddle as well as a more fluid and compact stature. Jiiffllll ….. Old MT just took 10 in the face in a headline.

Yamaha MT-125 2020 So much for the identity, let’s see for the technicality. The MT-125 takes its name from its engine capacity. As you would expect, and like all cops, it generates 15 horsepower from its mono. The Z, Tuono, CB-R, Duke or GSX-S do no better or worse. But the Yamaha has an ace up its sleeve. Its engine benefits from a variable admission. Called VVA and recently available on the YZF-R 125, this system uses two cams controlled by a solenoid (neither do I know what it looks like). Under 7400 rpm, the first cam acts, since its profile and its timing are designed for better performance at low and mid-range. Above, the VVA switches the other cam. Taking advantage of a higher lift and a weaker valve opening diagram, the mill will want to get the most out of it in high revs.
In the end, you still have no more than 15 nags. That we have to go for 10,000 trs, 1,000 more than before. But the power and torque curve will be fuller than with yesterday’s mechanics.
New engine, and also new gearbox plus the benefit of an assisted anti-dribble clutch. It is not so much the downshifts of Saguoin with a torque barely greater than 1 mkg that will ruin the driving, but a little smoothness and stability, it never hurts. And then, with this clutch, we gain ease at the lever.

The MT-125 also sees a lot of things under its clothes. We don’t notice it right away, but the rear tire has grown. From 10 mm to display 140.
The handlebars are a little higher, the seat a little lower, and the footrests more forward. You can also count on the new saddle and the ergonomics are geared towards greater comfort and agility..
Always an inverted fork of 41 mm, a single shock absorber, a braking made up of a disc of 292 mm at the front with a caliper with radial fixing double piston, of the wheels of 17 inches at each end … it is between the two that we see change. Either a reduced wheelbase of 30 mm, for even more agility. The frame and the swingarm are revised, without changing the material. Steel for the Deltabox, aluminum for the arm. Both marry with a wider pivot point now.

Yamaha MT-125 2020 Let’s save some digital for the end. The dashboard, it was high time to change it. That of the sportswoman being much nicer, why deprive yourself of it!?! The MT-125 thus gains a digital window, more pleasant and more qualitative..
It will not be too much to return to the clan of small strikes. The atmosphere is tense, the canine blows willingly, and if there are no low blows, no mercy either. While those on the handlebars will be very happy to compare their machines to this new MT – and the whole gang will leave with a smirk..
