Since its release in 1985, the V-max is a phenomenon. The kind of bikes that can’t be replaced because they are so full of personality. At first there was this style, thug bike with its awesome V4. The original version had a very specific power system which boosted the engine to 145 hp.. With its 4 carbs installed in a square, the gas stream can be force-fed by an ingenious process. The carbs communicate, and when a cylinder is in the intake phase, it recovers the mixture from its carburetor and that which is attached to it. A servomotor gradually controls the opening of a set of butterfly valves.
The first vintage, the 1985, was not imported into France and it was not until 86 to see the hot V-Max arrive but restrained. Amputated of its ardor (the V-boost) when it arrived in France, it remains to him his prodigious couple and his “mouth of hell”. If the bike throws a maximum, it is especially surprisingly easy to take in hand then confusing of sensations. Fortunately, the fork was changed a few years ago for the benefit of handling. This one is not without reproach, and even if the braking improved in 1993, it must calm a sacred mass. The mill has accommodated various standards (noise and pollution) by losing some of its strength, but not of its nature. A good mechanic can give it little care for more energy. The protection is disastrous, the seat lacks softness, but the machine was above all intended to show off on the terrace of a cafe, and rot everything that rolls on a 400 m. Anyway, with the derisory autonomy, no need to think about driving all day the FJR way. Whatever, the V-max is above all a passionate machine. A motorcycle for big hearts and big arms, but above all a legend.
