One of the big advantages of being an eccentric machine is that you can afford even more eccentricity. The MT-01 takes advantage of this character trait and 2007 to afford the braking of the latest generation R1 (just that ….), the only 6-piston radial braking currently fitted as standard on a machine..
The new colors are accompanied by new changes on the side of the master cylinders: the sports jars are replaced by more traditional elements, topped with new mirrors. The essential remains intact: a more than remarkable personality —>

What is the purpose of the birth of a concept-bike? Surprise, shock, amaze, disturb, and often let the dream vanish in the painful awakening of the realities of production. For once, a manufacturer has dared to unleash one of these most virulent prototypes in the street. Born in 1999, the surprising MT-01 is about to invade our streets. And the most interesting and the most incredible is that the production machine is almost identical to the salon proto. The road version will have a modified swingarm, inspired by that of the R1, different brake caliper mountings but still radial, a rear mono shock absorber placed under the engine, but still the same crazy silhouette. Admire this sleek design, this impression of strength and bestiality, this compact size, this monstrous twin … A mill already known which is already making people happy. This monumental block is none other than 1670 of the Road Star Warrior. A mechanical air cooled and lubricated by dry sump which develops on the Warrior no less than 85 hp and nearly 14 mkg. On the MT-01, this V-twin benefits from a vitamin cure. 90 cannons come out at the crankshaft but it is above all its torque which will tear the asphalt: More than 15 mkg at 3750 rpm. These figures are not very impressive in comparison with recent large productions peaking at more than 2 liters. But the Yamaha twin-cylinder combines genres and ultimately sensations. Tumbled, air-cooled, but also injection, multivalve, equipped with the EXUP and endowed with long stroke dimensions, this very large engine should tear the arms and frankly wake you up the senses. Do not see the replacement for the V-Max – it will be for later. The MT-01 enriches the Yamaha roadster family but with a particularly spicy hot sauce. A sort of Japanese Buell. The manufacturer announces a chassis worthy of a supersport (ah, the Z 1000 is starting to freak out), unique emotions, incredible handling, and this is only the beginning to entice us. The proto had made noise in the last century – its descendant will tear everything apart !

We now know a little more about the MT-01. Sound Reading the technical sheet, one would be tempted to believe that Yamaha has designed a hypersportive roadster with the heart of a power cruiser. Moreover, for those who like power, 2 engine kits will be available to boost the big twin to 96 or 110 hp (circuit use only). In use, we realize that the MT-01 is not in this vein. She loves sports, but in her own way. It’s not just another roadster, it’s a new genre: the “roadster-custom-big-potato”. We will not dwell on the silhouette of the machine. Since September 2004 (or 1999 for those who have seen the prototype), you have had plenty of time to discover it. Sculpted around its monumental twin, the MT imposes.

It stuck on your eye, it’s over, and it bothers your brain when you see on the magnificent meter a red zone at 5500 rpm (even my 206 rupte later …). And then, we wonder: “more than 15 mkg, OK, but the Kawa VN 2000 spits 3 more, and what about the Triumph Rocket III … And worse, if I want to have fun on the handlebars from a Naked, I have the Z 1000 or the Ducat ‘S4R … Actually no, what I like is when an engine is alive, like on the 1700 Warrior! “
Well, there is a choice. How about combining it all? Here is Yam’s brilliant idea: We take a large pot, we dip in Rocket III, a ladle of R1, we bring back to the Road Star Warrior, we sprinkle with Buell and we season with the Tuono. And here is a dish of the day well spiced up that will tear off a piece of your jaw. Expected at the bend for road holding, we are only half worried; with a fork of R1 and a frame technically and visually very worked, it should hold the parquet.

Born concept-bike, the Yamaha MT-01 remains a little once in mass distribution. A bike that doesn’t give a damn about performance, which only thinks of offering passionately and immediately a maximum of sensations. A strong identity, from the good big trunk coming from the big pistons, this machine gives in the charm and forgets only one thing in its quest for pleasure: comfort.

*Kodo : traditional drum music in Japan, similar to an expression of latent power like that of an earthquake and produced by a bass drum so huge that its intense beating resonates in your heart and soul .
