Yamaha XV 1900 A MIDNIGHT STAR 2016

Menus

This Roadliner continues its journey … quietly in the US; less on the old continent. In 2013, this huge cruiser had discreetly refined its front axle: its front fender arch is removed. All in all minor modification … Amateurs are attracted by the essential anyway: the deep beats of the very large Yamaha twin. Taking place in this imposing and majestic cruiser, the twin is a brand new engine, the first of a new generation of twin at Yamaha. A colossus of 1854 cm3 offering even more fat, torque, horses, “sensuality” … It’s huge. This long-stroke twin-ignition, air-cooled, injection, forged pistons and EXUP engine comes out with 90 hp but the most interesting is yet to come: its monstrous torque exceeds 15 mkg at just 2,500 rpm. / min. To filter the vibrations (we only keep the good ones that please ;-), the engineers have fitted a new system of right / left balancing pendulums. The 2 balances are positioned on each side of the crankshaft so as to minimize the bulk while maintaining efficiency.
The type of oil cooling used on the Midnight Star is a first for a Yamaha cruiser. It will effectively support the role of the engine fins (benefiting from recent casting technology) to preserve the reliability and longevity of the twin..

Look question, nothing to complain about. It’s beautiful, long, strong, it commands respect, in the great tradition of big customs with this retro side that smacks of the rebel years of deep America. Bullet-shaped indicators, a huge exhaust (less aggressive than the Warrior’s bazooka), superb stick rims, a singularly designed optical unit, a wide rear brake disc like an old 33 rpm, distributed chrome everywhere and a weight equivalent to 2 supersports in the range on the same scale. However, it is not good old steel but aluminum that is found in the design of the chassis. Created with die-cast aluminum technology, the frame has walls of varying thicknesses (same principle as an old R1) to optimize rigidity. The swingarm is also die-cast.

In 2011, Yam introduced its U.B.S (Unified Brake System) brake system on the 1900 Midnight Star (and on the 1300). This system improves braking by simultaneous braking force on both wheels, front and rear, when the driver applies the rear brake.

Between the “powers-cruisers” and the “very-big-custom”, the war of the “good vibrations” could have continued with great reinforcements of cm3. Unfortunately, the XV 1900 A will not continue its journey beyond 2016. This imposing machine leaves the Yamaha catalog, like so many customs no longer having the attraction of yesteryear on our territory.
