Yamaha YS 125 2017

Older, more discreet than the MT-125, the YBR slipped quietly between the avenues and the years. The latter having little mercy, a regular facelift is appropriate..
This is no longer enough for the little Yamaha, which decides to change without changing its philosophy. New name, new design, new poise; and under the dress, always an economic as well as an urban vocation. The mission of the YS 125 is to slip into everyday life, now with a more sparkling face.

On the Yamaha YS 125, the silhouette clearly changes generation, throughout the machine. With a more feline face, protruding scoops, a more tapered bow, a fully blackened engine and exhaust line, this bike displays a welcome boost of dynamism. Without however falling into the provocative. There is TM for that.
A fresher, thinner face does not completely satisfy the Yam. The engine has been revised, and very extensively. With a bore reduced from 54 mm to 52.4 mm and a stroke increased from 54 mm to 57.9 mm, this block is no longer square but long stroke, just to promote torque. With its modest displacement, it cannot claim violence but the couple is indeed in progress, gaining 0.1 mkg. The YS is powered by 10.6 hp and 1.1 mkg.
Internal ratings reviewed and not only. The block houses a new cylinder head with a narrower valve angle and reinforced valves. Compliant with the Euro4 standard, it can ogle over long hours of use in urban areas, especially as the tank has gained a liter of capacity, or 14 in all. The announced autonomy is 300 km.
Double solution almost nowhere to be found, starting can be done electrically or with the kickstarter.

Since the YBR, the bike has gained a bit of weight. Three kilos. With 129 units on the scale, we remain within reason. In all this enough to slip into town without a second thought. Hey, in town precisely, the YS has judged that a slightly more dominant driving position would be wise. It therefore raised the saddle to 795 mm (+ 15) to promote a more natural and more comfortable seat..
No surprise concerning the chassis which remains very simple, with a tubular steel frame, a slender fork supported by a duo of shock absorbers, a 245 mm disc at the front bitten by a piston and a 130 mm drum in back. Braking uses Yamaha’s UBS Integral System. Simple solutions that keep the price as dry as possible. The dashboard intends to escape this and wants a touch of modernity. No more double dial with needles; make way for more modern instrumentation with an analog tachometer supported by a digital window.

With the YS 125, Yamaha renews the simplest urban solution with a hint of elegance. We keep the fundamentals and we play on the ills … of the city. Some would do well to be inspired by it.
