Yamaha YZF-R1 1000 2006

Menus

…is a perpetual quest that Yamaha has dangerously approached the limit from a stylistic point of view. It’s quite simple: the brand with 3 tuning forks did not dare to touch the line of the R1 as it has reached a high level of beauty and notoriety (at Ducati, we call it Syndrome 916).

For the 2006 version, the only visible changes will be the colors, the more pronounced golden color of the fork sleeves, the absence of inlaid patterns on the clutch housing, the forced air ducts painted in the color of the fairing and the black coloring of the exhaust guards. And we say to ourselves that it is so beautiful that Yam would have been wrong to touch it.

Most of the work therefore focused on the bowels of the beast. On the engine side, 3 hp have been gained and among the most notable modifications are the use of shorter intake valve guides, this increasing the air intake flow. We also mention the revised clutch nut and smoother air intake ducts..
The chassis remains the 5th generation Deltabox, the structure of which has been significantly modified. By playing on the thickness in strategic places, this die-cast aluminum frame is lighter, more manageable and just as rigid as the old one..
The oscillating arm has gained in length (+ 20 mm) and sees its support points changed. The engine anchor points are too. And I’m not talking to you about the shifted weight distribution of 1% on the front, the new lower triple clamp, the on-board stopwatch, the modified timing chain tensioner … speak.

This new R1 is now developing 175 hp statically and it is likely that it has lost a few grams. The very nice little bonus of this 2006 version is the appearance of 2 special series. To my left, 500 R1 SP with Ohlins suspensions will appear; on my right, a “racing yellow” livery celebrating Yamaha’s 50th anniversary with a decoration inspired by machines from the 70s and 80s.
