Yamaha YZF-R1 1000 EWC GMT 94 2011

Menus

In the Japanese hypersports quartet, the GMT 94 R1 is certainly the one that stands out the most from other hyper-sharp missiles. What’s different about her? His tank? Barely. 24 liters of capacity like all the others, but a single valve for rapid filling when the majority of teams use a double trap system. Supplied by Staubli, the mono-valve limits the emulsion of the liquid but hello the bill. Not far from 10,000 euros the system.
His suspensions? No, it also trusts Ohlins, and gets a pressurized FGR 900 fork and TTX shock absorber. Its chassis perhaps? Not much. Even if its structure and design are its own, the YZF is made up of a classic double aluminum beam supplemented with a reinforced swingarm – this last element has however been redesigned and modified to withstand the more specific constraints of endurance..

Apart from the silhouette, it is the characteristic sound of the engine that sets the R1 apart from the girlfriends. When the 4 cylinders of the Honda, Kawasaki and Suzuki vocalize a sportsman VROAARR, the Yamaha clashes with a BROAAMBLRRR groan. Surprising and exhilarating in the road version, the cross-plane has introduced a new dimension of sportsmanship to the circuit. Previously provided by Laser, the sound system is now entrusted to Akrapovic, which is the must of what can be found in the exhaust today..
In its early days, the cross-plane R1 experienced quite a few heating problems. These episodes now seem contained, although the bike only moderately appreciates riding surfing the edges of the red zone. As standard, its 180 horsepower pales in comparison to the 200 donkeys of the Kawa ZX-10R and BMW S 1000 RR. No problem for the GMT: A few YEC parts, a Danielson Engineering preparation, a box and a racing harness, and here is the boiler galvanized by 205 horsepower (officially). You will hear them pass without needing to strain your ears.

Endurance naturally brings mechanics to optimized parts, to make them more efficient, lighter, stronger, and faster to change. You can save precious seconds when changing tires: when the rear wheel is ejected from the oscillating arm, the crown and the crown holder remain in place, avoiding any manipulation of the long and tedious chain. For the front, the longest is to unscrew the brake calipers when changing pads. Quick couplers allow hoses to be tuned-connected in an instant, without the worry of pressure loss or hydraulic leaks.
Swarming with carbon parts, as sharp as a Superbike machine, it only gives him a handful of hundredths because his goal is not to last half an hour in the ring but 24 hours in the arena. Telemetry equipment makes it possible to analyze a wealth of information after each session. The R1 is not yet equipped with traction control, marking one of the (rare) differences with the machines of the WSBK. Christophe Guyot and his R1 have great confidence in the experience and enthusiasm of the pilots.
Among the most popular machines in the championship, the R1GMT 94 is not content to be an extremely efficient motorcycle; it is also superb to see and as much to detail.
