Yamaha YZF-R1 1000 SP 2006

How to retouch a machine as accomplished and so beautiful as the R1 without offending its much admired line? Yamaha could not and focused on the development of the mechanical and technical part. Along with the 2006 version, Yamaha will offer 2 special series of its hypersport: a version with “Racing 80s” decoration and this limited edition SP. With this edition, we go beyond the stage of fantasy that only 500 privileged people will be able to afford. Yam’s latest craze in this area was the YZF 750 SP, declined from the R version – and this dates back almost 15 years….

This R1 benefits from further development than the 2006 vintage. More important than the 3 hp gained on the engine, the machine is equipped with Ohlins suspensions specially developed for it. The fork can be adjusted in all directions with a host of possibilities, as is the rear shock absorber. The rear suspension is distinguished by a system allowing the trim height of the R1 SP to be modified by 10 mm. Exclusive to the SP, the sports car houses an anti-dribble clutch in its clutch that limits the torque effect when decelerating..
The golden rims are signed by the famous manufacturer Marchesini. 400g lighter than the standard R1, their design is modeled on that of MotoGP’s YZR-M1s.
For fun, the exhaust tips are also gold, contrasting with this black hue that suits perfectly with this extreme series of the R1.
A little touch of nobility, the sports car has a small plate engraved with the machine’s serial number; to remind you (if it is possible to forget it) that you have an exceptional machine.

Yamaha R1 1000 SPWhich does not mean that being on the handlebars will radically change everything you already know. Don’t be so reductive…
The R1 is well known: very efficient, more than beautiful, less radical than in the past … the 2006 evolution, from which this SP originated, is done smoothly, by small touches of which only the experts will be able to fully benefit. This in no way detracts from the generous aura that never ceases to haunt the circuits.

3 hp more in the mill, that is to say less than 2% more power, would that be enough to feel a real difference in the guts of this excellent boiler?
Should we really mention the flaws? OK, we can barely fit a toothpick under the passenger seat, purists who drool over Ohlins suspensions will regret that the steering damper does not come from the same manufacturer, and duo question, we have rarely seen worse. EH! It’s not over soon enough! Would we be spending our time criticizing Claudia Schiffer if we managed to get her to bed?!? Of course not ; we would take a maximum foot, as with MS.

The R1 was a young teenager full of punch and joie de vivre when we all discovered it when it first came out in 1998. Today, this bubbly kitten no longer wears sneakers but prom shoes. She has become a great young lady full of grace and sensuality, an ambassador of performance and happiness. Be human: you can go crazy !
