Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), 1st:
“I had to fight for this victory, but first I have to offer my condolences to Nicky’s family. As I was telling my brother, it’s a very strange weekend. It’s weird because I don’t I no longer have my neighbor with the beautiful smile … But the race was fantastic, I had fun. It turned out to be very difficult, it was not really what I had planned, but it is part We got off to a good start, but I tried to pass Chaz with a full tank. I was a bit limited, I widened and did the same on Jonathan. so wasted a lot of time, but it was bad for good as I now have a better understanding of the bike’s setup in race setup, among others. In practice, I was pretty alone on the track, I managed my small business and got good results. But today, my times were disturbed by the pilots in front of me. In the end, winning here and continuing my series in Donington is fantastic ".
Leon Haslam (Kawasaki n ° 91), 2nd:
"I’m very happy with this result. Honestly, second place is way beyond what I thought I could do today! The crash this morning in Superpole 2 made me start from far on the grid, but I I finally managed to finish second. Obviously Chaz and Johnny fell. But I did my job, my own race, and I’m so happy for Kawasaki Puccetti Racing. I can’t find the words! I thank Manuel Puccetti and JG for the opportunity they gave me to race here today. Now we have to get back to work to prepare for the second tomorrow ".
Alex Lowes (Yamaha n ° 22), 3rd:
“It’s always fantastic to race in front of your fans, it’s our only chance of the year, so I wanted to do something special! I thought everything was bent at the first corner because someone (his big friend Haslam, Editor’s note!) hit me inside and I almost got off the track. I thought, “Oh no!” But I managed to keep my cool and stay focused. there it became one of the most enjoyable races I have ever raced because I overtook drivers for 23 laps. The race felt very short to me. The R1 was awesome, I got it. enjoyed it very much. We were a bit lucky in the last lap when Marco Melandri made a mistake, it got us on the podium. The team deserved no less: they work so hard, I really am happy to reward them. I expected to be the fastest guy after the championship leaders, that’s where I was lately when I had a good feeling before. ec the motorcycle. I knew I could keep my pace until the end of the race. This is one of our strengths this year: being strong at the end of the race. We’re just too far behind at the start. I thought it would be today, but it turned out better than expected! I can’t wait to see what we can do in the second run. This weekend we are all riding in memory of Nicky Hayden. I think he would have approved of my big slips from the back when the tires started to tire ".
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), 4th:
"Today the wind hampered our performance. During the race the bike was moving a lot and the front kept coming off the ground. It was a gust that pushed me off the track. during the last lap. But I was more disappointed by my feelings on the bike than by the missed podium itself. I did not have confidence in my front end and I did not have much grip in the rear. didn’t manage to reproduce the times made during the practice session yesterday, when we were still not at 100%. In this kind of situation, you have to think too much while driving. It’s all the harder d ‘attack as we would like and overtake. We will start from pole position tomorrow, but above all we need to find a better pace. We are working on it, evaluating several ideas ".
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 5th:
"We have to be happy with the result, especially given our 11th place on the grid. Friday we had a good pace and we knew we could be in the top five. I didn’t really get the start that I did. wanted, but I caught up and I completed a good first lap. Then, little by little, I started to overtake my opponents. My pace was really solid but I was not very happy with the feeling, J ‘ was struggling with the front end so I found a safer pace and kept moving forward. I got closer to Melandri but not enough to attack him. Then Alex passed me and I tried to follow him, but I had to cross my limit so I decided to focus on my race and finish fifth. Alex’s podium was incredible, it’s a very good result for the team. I hope to meet again tomorrow the feeling I had on Friday and fighting for the podium too ".
Leon Camier (MV Agusta, n ° 2), 6th:
"It’s a good day because we managed to get a sixth position. We always lose a little time in the same areas, but I tried to take advantage of the ones where I could make good maneuvers. Honestly, he didn’t ‘wasn’t possible to do much more today and I’m happy with our place. Let’s focus on the second round tomorrow, to get another positive result ”.
Leandro Mercado (Aprilia n ° 36), 7th:
"I’m so happy and very satisfied. I just didn’t know I could have this pace, especially early in the race. To be honest I was a little concerned with our grip, but my team made a few adjustments. which allowed me to attack hard. I started well and I was satisfied with the first part of the race. It got complicated halfway through the race, because when the tires wear out, the behavior of our bike is completely different. We have to work on that. It takes a physical approach! I am satisfied overall. Donington is a tough circuit for a lot of us so I think we are doing well. I want to thank my team for their incredible work. We are already working for tomorrow’s race of course ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 8th:
"I was disappointed with the crash because we had a really good pace at the start of the race. Yesterday we lacked stability, but the team worked hard overnight and I managed to charge the front and put our rivals under pressure. Unfortunately I made a mistake in the last corner which is quite bumpy. I released the front brake a little too quickly and the front shed too quickly. The limit between victory and defeat is always subtle. The good thing is that we got back on the bike and got some valuable points for the championship. Hopefully we can have a strong pace in the second round as well, and keep it going until Checkered flag".
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), fall:
"About a lap before Tom passed me, I started to feel a lot of vibrations when entering the curves, gas cut. I had a lot of jolts (" chatter "in English, Ed) from the front and from back. When Tom passed me it got worse. All I hoped was to finish the race and score a few points. Looking back, I should have retired because it would have saved my bike . Instead, it completely destroyed itself. The team will have to build me a new bike for tomorrow, which is also frustrating for the mechanics. I’m really disappointed. ".
Stefan Bradl (Honda n ° 6), retirement:
“It was very windy on the track and it certainly brought an additional challenge to the race. From the start I couldn’t ride the bike the way I wanted. I didn’t get far from the highside in the first one. corner, and then I realized that it was almost impossible for me to continue. We are not sure what happened yet, but the team is dealing with it and I hope we can make up for it. in the second race ".
