This year, the winter fell out more mild – that makes anticipation for spring. The motorcycle sales in Germany are fast in the height.

As the Industry Association reports motorcycle (IVM), 5556 motorcycles and scooters were released over 50 cubic centimeters in the past month. These are 87.2 percent more than in January 2021. The past year has completed the industry with a decline in sales by 9.7 percent.

Motorcycle Plus of 87 percent

Demand increased in all areas and culminated in a tripling of light-duty scooters. The motorcycle segment recorded growth of 57.7 percent with 3503 deliveries, power scooters came with 451 units, an increase of 160.7 percent. Light motorcycles recorded the same growth rate with 818 new registrations (plus 160.5 percent), while the so-called 125 scooters came to 784 units. That is 202.7 percent more than at the beginning of 2021.

The reasons for the plus are manifold. On the one hand, there is a lot of catching up to do for motorbike friends and motorbike vacationers after the lockdown years 2020 and 2021, in which significantly less was driven. In the case of smaller two-wheelers in particular, however, the fact that driving a car in large cities is becoming increasingly unattractive and expensive, and many people therefore buy a scooter as a replacement or at least as a supplement to their car, may also have played a role.
