World Superbike riders’ statements in Misano
The seventh round of the took place this weekend in, Italy. To complete our near-live reports, here are the statements of the Superbike riders at the end of their two Italian races.
#RiminiWorldSBK: statements from the 2nd round
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), 1st:
"This victory means so much to me. It is my first with Ducati, my first also on Italian soil, but it is also the 100th success of an Italian rider in WorldSBK. It is the result of many. effort, a calm attitude during difficult times, and excellent teamwork. We have never stopped believing in ourselves, and this result is a reward for all the sacrifices made. a little change to our setup this morning, and before the start I was sure I could win the heat. During the race I tried to manage my pace and ride smoothly once in the lead. I hope that Chaz will recover soon, he had a nasty accident but luckily without serious injuries. I hope I can fight for another victory, alongside him on the track this time, at Laguna Seca ".
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), 2nd:
“I’m really happy with the results today. Unfortunately we weren’t able to fight for the win. I felt we were struggling a bit as the rear tire was completely out of balance. I had a lot of vibration. and jolts (the famous "chatter", Editor’s note) on the back. It was really difficult to manage. I concentrated on Tom, trying to overtake him for many laps and when I passed, I had tried to hunt down Torres in second place. Unfortunately for him he had a problem and couldn’t finish. We have to be very happy with the result and get back to the garage to understand exactly why we are struggling the most today . The bike was much better yesterday, but the settings were pretty much the same every day. We are in a good position now in the championship (50 points ahead of Tom Sykes, Editor’s note). I finally wish Chaz Davies a speedy recovery ".
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), 3rd:
“I was just expecting more from the start of the race. I got off to a good start and had some nice overtaking early on, but unfortunately I couldn’t get the most out of the tires or the bike. The top five laps deprived me of any chance of winning the race. Other than that we had good speed towards the end but as I explained to the guys on the team if my bike stayed consistent it wasn’t good enough at the start. I think those early laps, when there was no way to challenge Jordi Torres and Xavi Fores, really affected the outcome of the race. We have something to work on for Laguna. I’m so sorry for Chaz Davies and all I can do is wish him a speedy recovery. The gap is widening in the championship and that’s a bunch of points Jonathan and I scored this weekend. ".
Michael van den Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 4th:
"My start was not perfect, I didn’t know where to go in the first two corners, but one by one I passed a few riders and made good maneuvers. I ended up behind Alex and I struggled to find my rhythm. I was having a hard time stopping the bike, although we hadn’t changed anything from the day before. I saw that in front the guys had the same pace as yesterday, so I tried doing my own laps and got close to Alex and Eugene. I passed Alex then Eugene, and tried to close the gap on the guys in front. But we were turning in the same ones. lap times so I really couldn’t get back up. Towards the end I had another problem with the rear tire. It’s a shame, but there is a positive because we scored some big points today. The best thing this weekend is still leading the race for so long yesterday. We can’t go back so we take the good points and look forward to it. e Laguna Seca! "
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia n ° 50), 5th:
“Fifth is our best result of the year so far so we have to congratulate ourselves on that. The guys in front of us broke again early in the race, which is hard to swallow, but it was a best race today. I managed to keep a constant pace and it was good to bring in some decent points. Yesterday we slapped too much on the tires. Today they stayed constant it was a good better race for me. Small changes were made last night to take some head off, and they worked in the race. But we still have to improve on this. Regarding the eighth event at Laguna Seca, it’s a track where the driver can compensate a lot, that should be a lot of fun. The fifth place we got today is what we should be aiming for. We hope to have another good performance in America. ".
Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia n ° 32), 6th:
“It was a positive weekend for us. Sixth place was a good result today, but we have to work a lot on the starts because I’m slow on that at the moment. We have made some changes to it. before after yesterday’s problems. They helped me, but the problem is still there. We will still have work to do when we leave Misano. I am happy to score more points today, and I want to maintain these performances . I feel great for Laguna Seca next month. Last year I was close to the podium, and this is a track that I love to ride. We learned a lot this weekend so we have to work hard to make sure we get to Laguna in good shape ".
Raffaele de Rosa (BMW n ° 35), 7th:
"Today went better. It’s just a shame that we couldn’t reach the Top 10 yesterday in order to start a little further ahead today, thanks to the inverted grid. Anyway, I am very happy because slowly, step by step, we manage to improve. It was easy in the conditions today, I tried to catch up with as many riders as possible and to maintain a good pace. We will try to capitalize on this result, race after race ".
Randy Krummenacher (Kawasaki n ° 88), 8th:
“It was an indescribable feeling to start from fourth place today. I am once again satisfied with my result. During the race I had a few small problems which did not prevent me from going further, but this eighth place is very important to me. I hope that with the experience we accumulate we will soon be ready to take the small step towards better positions. In the meantime, we are bringing home some new important points for the championship. I thank my team for their hard work, my sponsors for their support and my companion, who will soon make a dad of me. We will now look to improve for the next event which will be held July 7-9 in Laguna Seca ".
Jordi Torres (BMW n ° 81), retirement:
"We were convinced we could do well today. I started strong, making the most of my start from pole. Having no one in front helped, I was able to take my lines, get into a rhythm. J ‘did my race, attacked to the limit, gave 100% all the time. I rode with Melandri for several laps and kept pushing, but four laps from the end I felt a vibration. The rear was slipping, I realized it was the same problem as in Assen in the first run. I thank my guys at Althea, they found me a decisive chassis solution, which we had never tried before. She allowed me to find the right level of confidence and to express myself fully. I’m so sorry I couldn’t finish the race, but we have to remember today’s performance and keep it in Laguna … "
Xavi Fores (MV Agusta n ° 2), retirement:
“I felt the podium was close. I was attacking very hard but I was comfortable on the bike. I was more competitive than yesterday and I think the Kawasaki would have struggled to come back up. In Laguna Seca , the team and I will try to bounce back quickly "
