Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than others – have already been able to follow Saturday and Sunday, almost live, the unfolding of the World Superbike and Supersport 2018 races on the Portimao circuit. For latecomers:
Below are the statements of the drivers who animated the Supersport race on Sunday. Honor to the winner !
Federico Caricasulo (Yamaha n ° 64), 1st:
"This race brought me luck today. I was strong, as we have been all weekend, but I didn’t have quite the pace to get back on Lucas (Mahias, con teammate, Editor’s note) because he was attacking so hard in front. I was happy with second place, the victory was for Lucas, but he had a tire problem and that allowed me to take the lead. It’s like that sometimes. I’ve been unlucky in the past and he’s been unlucky today. I’m sorry for him, but I’m happy for the Championship because I’m much closer to the top of the standings now. ".
Kyle Smith (Honda # 111), 2nd:
“I’m really happy to be back on the podium. I had a bit of luck with a few guys who dropped out, but next to that the pace was good, I felt strong. I managed to grabbing De Rosa and once behind him I felt comfortable. I managed to overtake him and felt confident: so this is a step in the right direction and I hope we can continue to fight in front of ".
Raffale de Rosa (MV Agusta n ° 3), 3rd:
"I’m very happy to be on the podium again, it’s the sixth time this season. I had some difficulties in the race with the front axle and I suffered on the braking. I tried to fight. until the end and even when Smith passed me I was ready to try to attack him. I thank the whole team for the excellent work done. ".
Randy Krummenacher (Yamaha n ° 21), 4th:
"I am completely satisfied to score his important points: I am now fourth in the provisional, but a few points behind second place, tied with third. It was not an easy race because I struggled with it. the bike that didn’t give me a good feeling, so I couldn’t give it my all. I sometimes felt like I was fighting with the bike rather than with my opponents. It happens, it’s racing: you can’t always be to your full potential. We have to work to find solutions that will allow me to complete the last three good races. I thank my team, the guys are always working really hard and are very professional in all circumstances ".
Sandro Cortese (Yamaha n ° 11), 5th:
"It was a very difficult race. I unfortunately fell trying to overtake Jules. I was lucky to be able to continue, and of course I am very sorry for Jules and his team, I regret that I did. crash and I apologize to him. We were lucky to be able to finish fifth. A big thank you to the team, they did a great job as always. I am now looking forward to the next round at Magny-Cours ".
Lucas Mahias (Yamaha n ° 144), retirement:
"I am very sad for today, I had worked so hard with my team to win this race. I did not come to Portimao to get on the podium, but to win and get back on track in the championship. And we were so close to the goal. I felt comfortable once in the lead but the rear tire burst and I was lucky not to crash. Then I saw the red flag and I knew I had to get back to the pit lane, but it was difficult with the rear tire. I fell twice on the way back. At the end of the lap I cut the last corner because I didn’t want to drop fuel or oil on the track after my crashes, and that’s what disqualified me. Thanks to my team and Yamaha for their work this weekend as we demonstrated our potential. We must now return even stronger to Magny-Cours ".
Jules Cluzel (Yamaha n ° 16), retirement:
"What can I say. I had a really good start, I just wanted to do my best. In turn 5, Sandro passed me in front. I felt he was a mess, I thought he was was going to widen but he fell. I couldn’t do anything, he was 5 or 10 cm from me and I couldn‘t turn. I was unlucky … I want to indulge myself in Magny-Cours, I don’t want to think about the championship. I didn’t think about it at the start of the season. We’re still second, but I just want to take advantage. There are three races left, including the home one where it will be nice to see everyone. Argentina, a new circuit, and Qatar which I love. We will take advantage of these last three races ".
Team GMT 94 (Corentin Perolari, Yamaha n ° 6), retirement:
"Technical problem from the start of the race for Corentin Perolari and the Yamaha R6 GMT94. One thing is certain, a milestone has passed this weekend. See you at Magny-Cours on September 30".
