Find below the statements of the drivers who distinguished themselves on Sunday during the Supersport race. Honor to the winner and new world champion in the category: Lucas Mahias !
Lucas Mahias (Yamaha n ° 144), 1st and champion
“It’s an incredible feeling! I really started competing ten years ago, and if you had told me that I would be the WorldSSP champion, I would have said it’s impossible. But I did. worked hard for the last ten years and it finally happened … I haven’t quite realized it yet! The race was really tough, because all the scenarios were jostling in my head. Should I attack or not ? Obviously I didn’t want to fall but in all honesty I wanted to become champion by winning the race, it was a lot better that way. It’s an amazing feeling, I am very, very happy! Thank you Yamaha, everyone! ‘GRT team and my family ".
"I also want to congratulate Kenan on his impressive season: finishing second in the championship after his two big accidents, coming here, being able to ride and even finishing on the podium … it’s amazing! I’m not stupid: if Kenan hadn’t fallen at the start of the year and at Magny-Cours, I would have finished second in the championship. But it’s racing, and I’m just happy to be champion! "
Jules Cluzel (Honda n ° 16), 2nd
"What can I say? I tried everything. I knew my only solution was to push my limits without making a mistake. I can be happy with my race. I really didn’t make any mistakes. In Jerez, I had was disappointed after the race because I knew I could win it. But here where could I go? I knew the wind was stronger on the left, so I was stuck because I needed the suction ".
"I felt it was doable as long as you shifted perfectly, got the right gear but not too early, and that’s what I did. I just went on the right side but I cut the throttle because of the grass. Mahias shifted a little to the left but I had to go on the grass: I had no more tarmac. We did a good job all the way year. Our season has been solid and we deserved better, but that’s life ".
Kenan Sofuoglu (Kawasaki n ° 1), 3rd
“The start of the race was very difficult with everyone around me. When they all calmed down and started to ride normally I started to overtake them and set very good lap times. reached the leader’s group, but Caricasulo was very aggressive. We still got on the podium in the end, set the lap record and finished second in the world championship. ".
"I’m very happy, honestly, because we didn’t lose the championship today: we lost it because of the races we couldn’t do. Every time we finished our races, we got on the podium. I just have to consider myself happy and thank all the doctors who supported me this weekend ".
Federico Caricasulo (Yamaha n ° 64), 4th
“I’m happy with the weekend! I think we did a really good job! It was only the second time I rode here and it was probably, for me, the worst track on the calendar. feel confident now and I’ll be even better next year. I enjoyed the race and fought in front on the first 12 or 13 laps. But by then my front tire was destroyed and it It was impossible for me to fight for the victory. I tried to defend third place and get on a new podium, but I did not succeed ".
"This fourth place means I’m finished fifth this season and I really feel like I can fight for the title next year. I’m really happy for the team and Lucas, he deserved this title so much. He made one. brilliant season and made no mistakes, he was always smart and fast: It was his championship, so congratulations to him and the team for winning the title! "
Anthony West (Kawasaki n ° 13), 5th
“I got off to a good start, but when you’re on the inside of the track, you can either be lucky if everyone widens or be unlucky when you don’t. didn’t. I got a little stuck and a few guys passed me. Then some fell in front of me which bothered me a bit. I felt strong during the race and I I was able to catch up with some drivers. I would have liked the result to have been a little better, but I am happy because the last two years have been difficult. I have started to enjoy racing again, to fight for something ".
Niki Tuuli (Yamaha n ° 66), 6th
"I’m obviously disappointed that I made a mistake in the morning. I fell and my bike was pretty badly damaged. The team did a splendid job, fixing the bike so that it was on the grid, I am very grateful to them. I again made a few small mistakes during the race, but I can honestly say that I gave everything. Today, the cadors were too fast for me. As they say, we sow what we harvest. Anyway, this (first, editor’s note) season has taught me a lot. I know what must be done for next year. I will be ready to fight for the championship, I am sure we can do it ".
Patrick Jacobsen (MV Agusta n ° 99), retirement
