A new symbolic letter appears at KTM. We were well aware of his very sporty approach with the R; we will discover more originality with the T, for Touring. So far, only Adventure could claim a role as a traveler. In a style more trekking than walking, it must be recognized. Perfect for raid enthusiasts, it responds less to more modest desires. So here’s the new 990 SM-T, aka the SuperMoto Touring. A machine designed to eat the kilometer, relatively light (less than 200 kg), and developed on the basis of the 990 SM. A kind of mix between road trail, roadster and supermotard, equipped with a protective semi-fairing and powered by a large twin.
Well…. ! But it reminds us of something. A hybrid of this kind, with a traveler tendency, it looks like…. Yes, we are in the presence of a competitor of the CT. Except that the factory temperament should offer us something more sporty, in a vein comparable to the Ducati Multistrada and the English Tiger. Moreover, being derived from the Supermoto, one suspects that the machine will be able to go from traveling to a playful or even sporty ride..
The SM-T wants to be more accessible, more road than its sisters. The suspension travel, identical to that of the SMR, has been revised downwards compared to the SM, from 200 to 160 mm at the front and from 210 to 180 mm at the rear. The saddle height, still consistent, increases to 855 mm high (- 2 cm).
The engine is obviously entrusted to a twin, big, powerful, which does not intend to fall asleep on the SM-T. 999 cm3 for 116 hp, with a torque of 9.9 mkg. But let’s not confuse speed, power and disposition; With its large 19-liter tank, its luggage pre-equipment and road tires, the Katoche clearly shows its desire to discover the country. Promising, the machine is displayed at a price close to that of the SM, slightly above 12,000 euros.
