Honda had accustomed us to reasonableness, thoughtfulness, common sense. Motorcycles promoting efficiency, listening to logic, the desires of the market and a sense of reason. It was without counting on a massive need for adrenaline that the brand needed to inject. It takes shape with this striking machine: the F6C. Called Valkyrie in the States, or nicknamed Street Muscle Cruiser in the middle, this bike leaves no one unmoved and plunges into exuberance.
In Norse mythology, the Valkyries were warrior virgins in the service of Odin. In the Honda catalog, it’s a stripped-down version of the 1800 Goldwing, transformed into a bodybuilt cruiser. We love, we hate, we criticize, we are under the spell, we hesitate, we envy … The F6C is all that at the same time. A mixture of feelings that shakes up conventions. Those who wanted to obtain the 1800 Rune will be able to console themselves with this machine.
As we said, the F6C is closely derived from the GT Goldwing. In fact, the manufacturer has transferred 70 kg of facings to leave only the essential. Goodbye suitcases, the windshield, the generous fairing and its prestigious definition of tourism. A hooded LED headlight adorned with side air intakes looks nasty and confirms the identity of the machine. A monster ? No, a wrestler with a sense of velvety.
The character can not disappoint us with the large 6 cylinder flat that shakes within it. Few technical changes have been made except for a specific airbox and exhausts designed to obtain an exhilarating sound. Moreover, the left silencer is larger than the right, just to play on the vocals. The engine delivers with smoothness and flexibility its 114 horsepower at 5,500 rpm and above all almost 17 mkg of torque at 4,000 rpm.
Most of the Gold mill is therefore kept in a much more extravagant style. Chassis side, it also moves a lot. With a caster angle of 29 ° 5, the steering geometry of the F6C is more open. As the lack of a fairing can affect stability, Honda has set the weight distribution at 49.9 / 50.1 and made the stiffness of the engine mounts more flexible. The front rim gains an inch in diameter (19 “) and the total weight settles on 341 kg. Much less heavy than the GL 1800, the Valkyrie is however equipped with a beefier braking. The front discs go from 296 to 310 mm in diameter. The rear retains its 316 mm. All monitored by an ABS.
The F6C is also entitled to a new rear aluminum buckle as well as a low seat. Perched at 734 mm, it is located halfway between that of the Goldwing (740 mm) and that of the F6B (725 mm). Its suspensions have been recalibrated due to the lower weight and to adapt to a more urban vocation..
On the photos in the gallery you will see a lot of shots of the F6C in Blue Metallic. This color will not come to us, Honda playing an ounce of caution with more classic colors. But whether you choose one or the other, you won’t have to complain about a lack of adrenaline, emotions or admiration..
