2019 BMW 1200 Nine-T Racer

Menus

In 2019, the 1200 Racer offers a bit of technology with the series appearance of the ‘Dynamic Brake Light’, an active braking lighting system to warn followers of the intensity of the slowdown. A little extra for safety, and only change for the new vintage.
Alone ? Not quite. A new ‘Spezial’ color is emerging in the options department. A nice combination of black and gold, giving this NineT a hell of a depth. And enhance its philosophy a little more.
Even if it means rushing into neo-retro, you might as well go head into the bubble and handle in the corner. BMW excels in the field. Drawing on the success of the NineT since 2014, the Heritage range now has no less than 5 models. The original 1200 NineT, the Scrambler, the Pure, the Urban G / S, and to be sporty, the Racer. Gentlemen of the Joe BAR Team and arsouilleurs of the 70s, your descendants are there.

We knew the enormous strike force of BM and its executive side with the violent S 1000 RR. With the NineT 1200 Racer, it’s a different melody. We are witnessing the renaissance of sport in the old way. And what a face! No need to add salt or spices, the dish is presented in the most beautiful way. Captivable charm, a smeared color that calls out to you, a splash of war paint to honor the BMW Motorsport racing department, and we dive into the atmosphere. This Racer brings back to life the beautiful period of seventies racing motorcycles, filigree dream of the R 90 S, and reminds us of the Ninety concept presented in 2013. We suspected that this style study would lead to a sequel…

An old-fashioned fork crown, a seat cowl, a racing decoration – here you are in tune with the old-school sports car. Ultra-short summary of the situation that only allows you to see the 1200 Racer. Under this dress, the technical underwear is those of the NineT Scrambler, with a shorter wheelbase and more road shoes. But before returning to the technology, let’s take a tour of the grinding wheel to discover its specificities..

2019 BMW 1200 Nine-T Racer

Because a dress-up game would only be too light to be justified. The BMW has taken care of a few elements to maintain a certain rank. Including a driving position that must be typified. The NineT Racer lengthens its rider with a pair of rearsets and bracelets merging with the upper triple tree. A beautiful piece in forged aluminum, perforated between the column and the fork tubes. To complement the spirit and lift up selfishness, the rear revels in the transformation. Originally, the saddle is single-seater, completed with the aluminum seat cowl. As it is a NineT, the rear frame consists of a removable passenger frame; it is thus possible to mount the paraphernalia in addition to embark a passenger. Or give free rein to your imagination to develop a personalized stern.

We will not be entitled to sport jars for brake and clutch fluids. To console themselves, the instrumentation is vintage; and it’s fun. In any case, an airbus-style cockpit would have no place here. Analogue is in the spotlight, with two beautiful round counters and two needles to monitor speed and engine speed. The rest, who cares when the pleasure scares away all other consideration. But if the return to reality brings you back to the onboard information, each instrument takes care of a digital window. Still handy for checking the time, gear engaged, remaining range, daily mileage, maintenance interval as well as average speed and fuel consumption.

A machine with a neo-retro sauce is more or less today’s technology with the ecstasy of yesteryear. And when we see the front end of NineT Racer, we can let the doubt settle. Is it showing sufficiency to install a classic fork on a racy motorcycle like this? An inverted model would affirm the sportiness of the machine much more! Radial calipers would also be required. But …… wouldn’t that be betraying the spirit of vintage? Shouldn’t a motorcycle arousing the passion of yesteryear, and rightly so, be equipped with solutions similar to the time it endorses? ?
Freedom allows this kind of questioning, debate, lightness or openness. Because if we stick to the facts, we would only see a concern for economy. Let everyone judge; let’s all grab that classic 43mm fork. Neither inverted nor Telelever, just adequate to hold 4 piston axial brake calipers. At the rear, we find the traditional Paralever gimbal. Take the opportunity to gauge the color duo affixed to the mechanical parts: black for the single-sided swingarm, fork sleeves, rims, levers and engine – gray or metal for the cylinder head covers, the tubes of the frame and foot controls.

2019 BMW 1200 Nine-T Racer

Whether tonight for the brand’s first motorcycle (R32), the aforementioned R90S or our NineT Racer, the mechanics remain true to its fundamentals: a flat, air-cooled Boxer twin. To stay in the retro and avoid a whole mess of hoses and radiator for the fleet, we will not find here the latest generation of flat-twin. Honor to the proven 1170 cc and its 110 horsepower. It has what it takes to have fun and flaunt the union’s minimum of technology: injection, Euro4 standards, double ACT, 4 valves per cylinder, 6 gearbox and a nice maximum torque of 11.8 mkg. Something to give rhythm, with the allure and intrepidity of a cafe-racer. There would almost be enough to present yourself alongside an HP2 Sport … but just introduce yourself.
The exhaust line goes there to complete the panoply. No double silencer like on the other NineT; just an old fashioned bazooka, as it should be.

With this Racer, BMW skillfully completes its Heritage range with a sporty revival. It does not encumber itself with the plethora of equipment for current missiles; simply ABS, and optional traction control. However, it is less premium than the standard NineT. No inverted fork, steel tank instead of aluminum, optional spoke rims. But BMW has everything for the wallets filled: a list of options worthy of a cinema release – between the ticket and the film, we will be well tempted by popcorn, ice cream and a coke. Or rather Slim, Raiders and a Mikojet.
