The most expensive are the best

The ADAC has tested 5 electric scooters of driving license class A1 (125cc). The most expensive test copies produced the best results.

KAny other vehicle is as well suited as a scooter for getting around electrically in an urban environment. Portable batteries or ranges suitable for city use mean that the sales figures for e-scooters are steadily increasing. For this reason, the ADAC has five models with driving license class A1 ("125 cc") are tested. The focus was on suitability for everyday use, ergonomics, drive and driving characteristics. The positive result: no scooter failed. However, no model with the top rating could either "very well" convince. Two of the scooters tested performed satisfactorily, three gave good results.

Silence S01 takes test victory

The winner is the latest model in the test: the Silence S01 (grade 2.2). The Spanish model, which costs 6,490 euros, impressed above all with its well thought-out design: the large battery, which provides a decent range of 90 kilometers, can be easily removed and transported. After removing the battery, it becomes a trolley and can be easily pulled into the house or apartment for charging. The best braking distance and good results in terms of acceleration and range, as well as storage space under the seat for two helmets, ensure good marks in all test areas. The Schwalbe from Govecs and the Vespa Elettrica from PIaggio follow on a joint second place with a grade of 2.5. Both are priced similar to the test winner. This means that the three most expensive models can also be found in the top three ranks in the test.

Vespa is slow but comfortable

However, the Vespa disappointed the testers with its moderate top speed of 67 km / h and extremely sluggish acceleration. Apart from the average range (68 km) and the built-in battery, the electric Vespa impresses with its driving characteristics and great comfort. The Schwalbe from Govecs offers the best driving performance in the test, a balanced chassis and the only scooter in the test (at least optional) an anti-lock braking system. Without ABS, you have to cut back on the braking distance, which at 12.3 meters from 50 km / h was the worst in the test field. The high power consumption also had a negative impact, so the battery only lasted 67 kilometers.

Bestseller is only fourth

The best-selling e-scooter in Germany, the NIU NQi GT (2.7), was only able to secure fourth place. Above all, the uncomfortable sitting position, the long charging time (9.2 hours to fully charge) and the small storage space were negative. The last in the test, by a clear margin, is the Trinity Uranus R. The optional second battery increases the price as well as the range, but it cannot compensate for the weak headlight illumination, the poorly readable display and the longest charging times. The result: grade 3.3.

Conclusion

A high financial investment is still required for a good electric scooter. The ranges are suitable for the city, but some providers have some catching up to do in terms of loading times.
