MOTORRAD examined eight legal accessory silencers with EC type approval for their suitability for the Kawasaki ZRX 1200.

Late autumn in Hockenheim. The leaves have fallen, the season is over, lethargy has settled over the Baden Motodrom. On this November day, however, the silence is repeatedly torn by throaty, hoarse hissing, which abruptly turns into angry babbling. It is the accompaniment of the test work of the MOTORRAD team, which is currently the Hertz attacks of eight accessory silencers with EC type approval for the Kawasaki ZRX 1200 records with a sound pressure level meter.
For the compulsory driving noise measurement, the ZRX is chased twice with each test specimen from both directions over the 20-meter-long measuring section. The driver first has to accelerate fully from 50 km / h in second gear, but then suddenly close the gas. The same procedure then takes place in third gear. The average of the four measurement results is then used to calculate the driving noise value, which for any retrofit exhaust must not be higher than that of the standard system (see the original exhaust box). However, only the Ixil pot met this legal requirement. All other subjects, especially the performance-wise boasting specimens from Bos, L & W, Remus, Sebring and SR-Racing, considerably exceeded the reference value of the series exhaust. Bleak prospects for buyers – because despite the operating permit, they alone bear the consequences of an officially ordered follow-up measurement.

This means that the measured 81 dB (A) for driving noise are used as a reference value for the retrofit parts.Special features: perfectly fitting cover for the screws of the three-hole flange connection.Conclusion: relatively heavy, very well-made standard silencer made of stainless steel with the hoarse sound that is typical for Kawasaki Exceeds information in the vehicle documents, but is still within the legal range

Conclusion: properly processed oval silencer, which, due to its slim shape, does not fit perfectly with the round connection flange of the ZRX 1200 and is slightly below standard in terms of power and torque development, but above standard in terms of driving noise
