Cork Ballington is coming

Raymond Roche comes to the Sachsenring.
As part of the ADAC Sachsenring Classic, former Grand Prix drivers and world champions will once again compete as Classic Kings. Visitors can already look forward to Hugh Neville “Kork” Ballington (born 1951). The South African’s Grand Prix career was relatively short (1976-1982), but impressive nonetheless.
Ballington won the world titles in the 250 and 350 cc class on Kawasaki in both 1978 and 1979. Apart from him, this feat was only achieved by former World Championship riders Agostini, Surtees, Ubbiali, Redman and Hailwood. During his Grand Prix career, Ballington stood on the podium 46 times, including 31 Grand Prix winners. In 1980 he was also runner-up in the 250cc class.
Racing fans can also look forward to three-time Italian motorcycle world champion Pier Paolo Bianchi. This won the world championship of the 125cc class in 1976, 1977 and 1980. In a total of 127 Grand Prix starts Bianchi achieved 27 victories and 61 podium finishes. He achieved exactly 999 championship points.
Also at the start is the vice motorcycle world champion 1990 and superbike world champion 1994 Carlos Cardus from Spain. With the Frenchman Raymond Roche, a former Superbike World Champion will also be at the start in the ADAC Sachsenring Classic. The now 61 year old motorcycle racer won the title in this category in 1990. Roche was also runner-up in the Superbike World Championship in 1991 and 1992. In the all-time list of the most successful Superbike riders, Raymond Roche ranks eleventh with 23 victories. Roche also competed in the motorcycle world championship from 1978-1989. His best result, a third place overall, was achieved in 1984 on a 500cc Honda.
In cooperation with the Christian Motorcyclists of Saxony (CMS), the ADAC Sachsen is also organizing a biker service on June 23 with live musical entertainment at the Sachsenring. Afterwards there will be an invitation to the public viewing for the soccer World Cup game Germany-Sweden.
By bike to the Sachsenring
The ADAC Sachsenring Classic starts its fifth anniversary event on June 21 with a special campaign. All interested Sachsenring fans and cyclists are cordially invited to EXPERIENCE the 3,671 km long Grand Prix course by bike. Under the motto “Safety comes before speed”, the participants can ride the legendary Omega, the infamous Curve 11 or the Saxon Curve on their own.
ADAC
Like racing drivers: many (hobby) racing drivers do this when they have the opportunity to experience the route by bike.
The starting driver and participant will be the 1988 Olympic champion in the individual time trial and the two-time winner of the 1982 and 1986 Peace Ride, Olaf Ludwig. The route can be used from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The official meeting point for this is the ADAC tower, Hohensteiner Strabe 18, 09353 Oberlungwitz. At 7 p.m. there will be a parallel interview / autograph session with Olaf Ludwig in the international press center at Sachsenring.
An entry fee is not charged! Every participant receives a certificate of participation at the information point at the ADAC tower. Visitors arriving by car can park for free in the ADAC car park at the racetrack.
