Duel Honda NC700X Vs Suzuki DL 650 V-Strom: culture shock
These are undeniably two philosophies that clash through these two road trails. Will the reasonable pragmatism of the Honda NC700X prevail over the fun versatility of the Suzuki 650 V-Strom? Bipolar duel test…
NC700X, 650 V-Strom: still starting !
When it comes to taking the brakes, the NC700X is very surprising: its economical device (the rear disc is cut inside the front disc!) Provides very convincing braking. The feeling, the power and the precision are amazing: a real success !
The same cannot be said of the Suzuki. In absolute terms, the new DL 650 V-Strom brakes well, but the feeling is not ideal and the bite is not really there. A more virile action of the right lever causes a significant plunge of the fork and the panic of its ABS mounted in series: sensitive, it tends to be triggered too early and to lengthen the braking distances.
Excellent in the "motorcycle-work-sleep", these two road trails are also very nice partners to make a short – or long – trip: the upright driving position is particularly relaxing and their available motorization readily bends to exercise.
However, a few kilometers are enough to demonstrate that in terms of comfort and protection, the Suzuki buries its competitor … Starting with the seat: regardless of the duration of the journey, that of DL 650 V-Strom retains its delicious creaminess in all circumstances !
It’s less good on the NC700X: soft at first glance, its saddle tends to be painful after an hour or two, as on the NC700S (normal: it’s the same!) The Honda also protects less well its pilot: a good part of the helmet and the shoulders are exposed, even with the windshield in the high position.
By approaching the small roads, the V-Strom can turn into a little princess of the arsouille. Obviously, it allows you to really have fun while remaining perfectly healthy. Despite its 19-inch front wheel, its front axle is agile and is placed with delightful ease..
Its engine responds to all demands: flexible and torquey, it is not the most expressive but offers a good length: on the German motorway, the 200 km / h counter is quickly reached. !
Comfortable and well-suspended, the Suzuki shines just as much in energetic driving as at a senatorial rhythm: such versatility will certainly delight heavy riders, just like their passenger whose fate is also enviable..
