A Monster of Ease
Ducati, Italian manufacturer, MotoGP world champion in 2007 and Superbike in 2008, is renowned for its sports cars and big-hearted roadsters. However, its best seller remains the little Monster completely revised in 2008: the 696! Test.
New era ?
Presented last year in Milan alongside the sulphurous 1098R and 848 (read), the new Ducati "little monster" could have gone unnoticed. After all, the name of the Italian entry-level roadster could not be less: from "Monster 695", it passed to "Monster 696"…
However, behind the minimal change of its name hides in fact a major rework! As a reminder, if the Monster 696 retains its entrenched Twin in L, it receives cylinder heads of the same type as those fitted to the Multistrada and Hypermotard. It therefore gains in performance while on the cycle side, the overhaul is complete !
This year, the small Panigale roadster is equipped with an all new hybrid frame – Ducati to underline the "filiation" between the 696 and the Desmo of MotoGP … -, mixing a front part in lattice of steel tubes and a aluminum rear part, to which are added an aluminum swingarm and radial brake calipers…
Visually, therefore, the "six ninety-six" is decidedly more modern than the 695, which remained very close to the Mostro 620 it replaced (read our). Naturally, the purists are quick to cry scandal and deny the too Japanese tunes of the new Ducati…
Nevertheless, sales of the 696 tend to prove that fans of Italian beauties have not shied away from the latest addition: in just over six months (the 696 landed in France at the end of April, read), this bike was registered. nearly 800 copies – exactly 787 as of October 31 – which represents Ducati’s best-selling product in France.
Good news for the brand, which was quick to present its new big Monster, a true copy of the small 696, 1078 cc engine and extra single-arm (read our) … Because for the manufacturer, a "new era begins"with his 696 … Verification !
