Aprilia RS4 125 test: the star of the playground (es) !

Lovers of sporty 2-stroke motorcycles, take out your handkerchiefs: the Aprilia RS 125 is bowing out, victim of anti-pollution standards. The magic still operates with its successor, the new and ultra-racy RS4 125 4-T ? First try.

Who tires the most…

To compensate for this cruel lack of watts, the RS4 125 makes it necessary to keep a passage speed as high as possible, and therefore to enter a curve by braking little and late: the immediate attack and the surgical dosage of the lever on the radial caliper four pistons then prove to be valuable allies, while the easy management of the single rear 218 mm disc facilitates a sudden correction of trajectory on the angle.

And from the angle, the RS4 125 is capable of taking an impressive amount! So much so that the consequent ground clearance ends up being undermined, without this really disturbing the balance of its suspensions: footrest on the ground, the Aprilia remains as welded to a rail, does not return any reaction parasitic on the handlebars and even seems to require a few more degrees of tilt !

Downright stunning! Except that a small "detail" explains this almost unfathomable limit of grip: the uninviting original tires (Sava MC 25 Bogart) were surreptitiously swapped by Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa by Aprilia staff! And as if that were not enough, the Italians took the opportunity to mount a 150/70/17 at the rear, instead of the 130/70/17 fitted to models sold in dealerships..

Admittedly, the excellent Italian tires only exacerbate an undoubtedly flattering dynamic potential: even with "wooden" tires, the RS4 125 will probably remain a fine blade in the winding, so much its intuitive reactions and its top chassis do not lend much. the flank to criticism.

But would its front axle be able to withstand so much stress on the angle with the original Slovenian tires? Will the level of grip be as high and secure, especially on the road, the first priority of this RS4 125? …

So many questions that unfortunately remain unanswered at the end of this first essay. On the other hand, one thing is certain: at 4199 €, the Aprilia is not really cheap, especially for teenagers aged 16 to 18! The lucky ones will however be delighted by its cycle part worthy of a Grand Prix 125, while its seductive plastic will be unanimous at the end of the course: it’s beautiful to be young !
