DN-01, Deauville and Transalp tests: one engine, three interpretations !
On the occasion of a pleasant trip through the Vosges, Site went to rediscover the charms of three Honda equipped with the same 680 cc twin-cylinder engine: the futuristic DN-01, the classic Deauville and the adventurer Transalp… Testing !
Honda Deauville: the safe bet
Despite its unremarkable physique, the Deauville is still a wise choice for those who want to combine practicality with comfort without spending too much money (€ 9,990 for the ABS version with a top case offered for € 1 more until the end of June 2009) . Appeared in 2001, the Deauv ‘is now driven by the 680 twin cylinder. It develops 65.6 hp at 8000 rpm and 66.2 Nm of torque at 6500 rpm.
Somewhat fair figures to tow with conviction the 257 kg all full made of the whole, which obliges to pull the reports – as on a four-cylinder: a shame! – during vigorous climbs or rapid overtaking.
The opportunity to rail against the vibrations which appear at around 5500 rpm and which accompany the revs up to the switch! In addition, its large adjustable windshield and its enveloping fairing perfectly protect the driver on the motorway and in the rain, while its precise gearbox, combined with an engine that resumes – albeit gently – at 2000 rpm in fifth gear and at high speeds. soft suspensions – a little too much at the front – preserve the driver, whatever the route.
In short, Deauville is like this companion whom one marries without passion after several years of living together, convinced that her perpetual friendliness and her formidable propensity to fulfill the daily routine will succeed in masking her few minor faults, such as her inability to arouse strong emotions…
