GSX1250FA trial: the Bandit’s new heist !
Suzuki‘s iconic roadster, the Bandit 1250 transforms into a long-haul traveler with the addition of a flattering full fairing. Renamed GSX1250FA, the new Bandit is ready to overshadow many roads for a tempting price… Test.
Affordable versatility
By the way, the Suzuki also gains a more marked identity, even a tad sporty since it is modeled on the front of the 2005 GSX-R, the GSX1250FA of which also takes over the on-board console. Enveloping almost the entire engine, the fairing has large and practical notches at the knees that allow the tank to be properly enclosed, pleasantly thin at the crotch..
Available in two versions with ABS as standard (the Genuine and the Grand Touring which carries a full 103-liter luggage and an adjustable deflector), the GSX1250FA obviously has the same ergonomics as the roadster, although the adjustable saddle is placed higher: 805 mm against 790 mm on the Bandit !
Installed upright on this saddle, which is moreover accessible and comfortable, the pilot benefits from adjustable levers that easily fall under the glove and from a handlebars placed high enough not to have to tilt the chest. A GT-style position which provides a lever arm facilitating urban wanderings and low-speed maneuvers. In short, the Bandit GSX1250FA is easily tamed and has enough consideration to consider carving the road far and for a long time, without fear of dislocated wrists or thigh cramps. !
Barely heavier to take on a curve in its standard version (Genuine), the GSX1250FA Grand Touring requires more attention because of its overweight: between the weight of the full fairing, the suitcases, the top case and their fixings, the road of Hamamatsu is not a ballerina of the Bolshoi! Already penalizing on the roadster, the heavy front axle at low speed does not immediately create confidence. In arsouille mode, the inertia of the assembly requires the grip and the reinforcement of the rear brake so as not to be dragged outwards.
Add to that a few jerks of injection at the go-around and especially a Nissin ABS which comes into action too quickly and which struggles to avoid micro blockages on wet roads – a phenomenon much more noticeable on the fully equipped version – and it clearly appears that the GSX1250FA favors anticipation over improvisation: a driving style perfectly in line with its road vocation.
Especially since the double-cradle steel frame and the firmer suspensions – but working correctly – show themselves to the height on the angle: apart from a tendency to lock on the brakes in sustained driving, the GSX1250FA swallows medium and large curves with serenity.
Getting out of said curves like a cannonball is a task made all the easier as the 1255 cc is likened to a big elastic: flexible (it accepts strolls in sixth at 1,500 rpm!), The four Suzuki legs then go up in power without weakening up to 4,000 rpm, a speed where its torque capable of ridiculing a pulling tractor gets in your head to stretch your arms up to 8,000 rpm !
Less sustained on the last graduations (the breaker is set at 10,000 rpm), the acceleration is nonetheless enjoyable: claiming "only" 98 hp, the unit offers an availability packed with punch that sweeps away many ‘a priori stubborn on this type of engine !
