Suzuki Inazuma 250 test: a convincing mini roadster !
Suzuki offers with the new Inazuma the only 250 cc roadster on the market. A motorcycle that should be able to find a place in the sun under the nose and beard of a sporty competition … First test in the laces of Herault !
Mini Jekyll and mini Hyde …
Okay, the Jekyll and Hyde image is ultra overused … But still, the "man" side of the Suzuki Inazuma 250 in town, of the "all good without shine" kind, gives way to a hot side on small winding roads. We forget the urban range of 5 to 8,000 rpm to focus on the top of the tachometer, between 8 and 11,000 rpm.
There, failing to tear off the arms, the 24.48 hp and the 22 Nm of torque of the engine allow to pay a good slice! Which is good, because everything is healthy on this bike: the saddle is comfortable, the turning radius is short and it fits easily on the angle. Likewise, the suspensions do their job well, leaning more towards comfort than performance..
The braking is powerful enough to be effective, while remaining easily controlled, even at the pedal. Thus, in sequences at a good pace on a slightly crumpled road, if you sometimes feel a waddle it never turns into an alert..
On the small departmental areas around Pic Saint Loup, the Buège Valley and the Herault gorges, due to the leveling of overall modest performance, our small band was reduced to fine-tune braking, trajectories and other bilevesees to do battle with friends. And the funniest thing, suddenly, is that we fully exploit the possibilities of the twin !
What a pleasure on the open road to go from "I weld to knock" to "I brake" continuously! In fact, we’re going back to school: it’s not the machine that makes the difference, it’s its hustle and bustle! Read the bends well, choose the right gear to go out without losing contact with friends, so funny … We want more !
The return to Montpellier is full of beautiful rapid lines. Here again, the Inazuma 250 puts you at ease and you get into the habit of staying on full throttle to put on curves as fast as pearls. And if it closes a little, no problem, the beautiful homogeneity cannot be denied: at worst, it waddles a little, and we put the gas back in full swing !
A small passage on the (German) motorway to reach the city allows us to display the maximum speed: wedged in dab, at the aspiration of each other, we see the needle of the meter frolicking around the 150 (152 for dwarfs, 148 for the Vosges woodcutter who writes these lines)…
A very moderate risk for our points, because by removing the 9 to 10% exaggeration of the counter we arrive around 136-137, that is to say the legal 130 plus the tolerance of 5% of the error of reading of the radar! Another subject of satisfaction, we do not risk as on the handlebars of a 125 to be "pushed" by heavy weights, a most unpleasant feeling…
To finish with this contact, we will note an average consumption (measured) of less than 3.5 l / 100 km. Or a good arsouille carried out at rather high speed for a budget more than contained. All in a festive atmosphere that reminds the ancients of the time when we explained ourselves on the handlebars of small 125 carried out toc, even that we were proud of it….
Verdict: economical but fun, small but flattering
If the performance of the Suzuki Inazuma 250 remains modest, the essential is elsewhere. Economical in use (a little less on purchase with a price of € 3,999), this roadster does not forget to have a good face and to offer pleasant road skills. Suzuki France plans to sell between 300 and 400 copies in 2013.
Easy in the city, fun in the country, budget hyper content: it is a real remedy against crisis. And if you have the good idea to choose her as your daily companion, you will see that you will end up adopting her too, from time to time, for an old-fashioned trip, just to remember what it was like when you could. screw the handle without trembling at the sight of a station wagon parked on the side … Try to see: it’s just enjoyable !
