Test of the FZ8 and Fazer8, future Yamaha bestsellers
Number one in sales of motorcycles in France since 1996, Yamaha is launching this year a new model which should confirm its monopoly: the FZ8, and its streamlined version Fazer 8. The French bestseller Z750 is in the target… First MNC tests !
Fazer8: the (auto) road version
Weighted down at 5 kg, the Fazer8 gives a slight impression of engaging when just stepping off an FZ8. However, this feeling disappears very quickly and we find the agile and neutral character of the roadster after a few turns..
The protection offered by the bubble is very satisfactory: the wind no longer hits the pilot’s arms and shoulders directly and only the upper half of his helmet remains tossed in the air. Those "less than 1m70" can even easily isolate themselves from the air flow by bending the spine. The older ones will have to accentuate the movement, without having to stick the chin against the tank !
For its part, the elegant fairing deflects the air quite well around the knees and thighs. On the other hand, we cannot expect miracles in the event of rain, or even a short downpour. It is better to bring the rain suit, which will slip into the backpack if there is no room under the saddle.
When it comes to comfort, as we have seen, the FZ8 / Fazer8 takes great care of its pilot: natural position, suspension settings favoring everyday enjoyment … Even the footrests – front, not rear, sorry darling – are mounted on silentblocs and are equipped with a thick layer of rubber to isolate the little feet from engine vibrations !
These vibrations are sensitive to the buttocks at acceleration around 4-5000 rpm, but are very discreet at constant speed. Only the most vicious will blame the handlebars for tickling their hands at around 6,000 rpm…
At this speed in sixth gear, the speedometer of the Fazer8 – and that of the FZ8 as well – indicates 135 km / h. Well wedged behind the bubble, the pilot then sees himself perfectly shot down on the highway over long distances without worry..
Only the saddle after half a day – or the 17 liters of the tank before that? -, will force him to take a break.
As a duo, we will pay attention to the necessarily reduced ground clearance. The passenger, meanwhile, will be able to hang on securely to its handles. Please note, these are delivered as standard on the Fazer8, but optional on the FZ8. And for those who the trip would tempt for good, the Yamaha catalog offers multiple accessories.
Let us retain for the moment the high screen (129 €), the luggage rack and its 46-liter top-case (139 + 175 €), the central stand (159 €), the protective rollers (149 €) and, for the most aesthetic, the license plate holder and its LED indicators (99 + 59 €).
