The extra fantastic toy !
Large-wheeled scooters have had limited success in France. However, behind their draw of the first of the class hide remarkable services. The Honda SH300i, for example, is a joyful man and a great tool in town ! Test.
In town: better than a Tmax !
With an upright stance and amazing maneuverability, the SH300i rider feels his wings growing around town. The small single-cylinder combines great flexibility with quite extraordinary fishing. While it only displays 27 hp on paper, it has no trouble propelling the machine’s 170 kg with bluffing vigor..
When starting the fire, it remains in the aspiration of a Yamaha 500 Tmax – and its 44 hp – up to almost 100 km / h! But its big assets are above all its liveliness and its extraordinary ease with regard to its displacement..
These qualities are mainly due to the large wheels fitted with thin tires. They give the scooter a light steering as well as exemplary stability and comfort on cobblestones. This makes the SH300i a formidable tool in the city.
Its turning radius is excellent and its finesse allows it to go through mouse holes. It’s simple, we squeeze as well as the Velib ’in the middle of traffic jams.
When it comes to braking, it’s a blast, despite the bite that is actually quite light. When you get used to it, the front brake finally offers a lot of power and a very appreciable feeling. It is well supported by the rear brake equipped with the CBS system: the left lever actuates not only the rear caliper but also a piston of the front brake.
In addition, the SH300i comes standard with ABS which works very well. That is to say that it is forgotten, without triggering all the time.
Trans-suburb-express
While it is very comfortable in saturated city centers, the SH300i is also very pleasant on slower axles thanks to the impressive breath of its engine..
It climbs very quickly up to around 120 km / h then hangs over 150 odometer as long as it is allowed time. This makes it possible to tackle all types of roads, including small motorway stages !
But suddenly, the total lack of protection of the upper body is felt. The position of the very straight bust further accentuates the phenomenon and the pilot is more exposed than on a "GT" scooter..
Unfortunately, Honda now refuses to offer a windshield as an accessory because it generates too much turbulence from 110 km / h. However, we find it in the catalog of all good equipment manufacturers, but, beware…
If Honda goes so far as to advise against it, it is because the windshield attaches to the handlebars. This can cause swaying and disturb handling. Better not to invest in a windshield that is too high! In any case, without this accessory, the stability of the SH300i is very good. It is only from 140 km / h that the chassis becomes a little less precise … without being dangerous.
