GP of Aragon – Iannone (3rd): "It feels good after several disappointing races"
Andrea Iannone, handsome third in the 2018 Aragon GP behind Marc Marquez and Andrea Dovizioso, returns to the forefront: the future Aprilia rider signs his third podium of the season on the Suzuki GSX-RR… which in the process loses its regulatory concessions! Debriefing.
Andrea Iannone, Suzuki (5th in qualifying and 3rd in race) : "I’m very happy. To be honest, I was quite confident because we had worked very well from the start of the weekend. This Grand Prix was incredible, everyone was attacking very hard … Especially at the end of the race , knowing that it was also necessary to manage tire wear with these very high temperatures ".
"It was not necessarily obvious on the last laps! I did everything to try to overtake Marc and Andrea, but with the acceleration I could not fight against them. Alex (Rins, his teammate, Editor’s note) was also very strong, but I think I had a few tenths more than him. Anyway, it’s still a superb result which feels good after several disappointing races, and it makes me happy to have been close to the leaders ".

Site analysis : MNC has since announced a probable coup dazzling from Andrea Iannone, fast and constant in free practice. The fiery transalpine did not make us lie: dominating in the warm-up, "The Maniac" delivers to Aragon his best performance since his (Spain).
On the lookout for the slightest mistake from Dovizioso or Marquez, Iannone even briefly seized the lead, taking advantage of the embarrassment caused by yet another attack by the Spanish on the Italian! What to boost the morale of the troops at Suzuki, especially since this podium is added the very solid 4th place of Alex Rins.
"The race was a very good fight," enthuses Iannone’s teammate: "I learned a lot to fight at the front and follow Marquez and Dovizioso, as well as to fight with Andrea ( Iannone, Editor’s note). It was great! This result gives a great motivation to continue to make efforts, especially in Thailand which is a track that I like a lot ".
Despite a top speed deficit of around 5 km / h (339.4 km / h for Dovizioso against 334.8 for Iannone), the two Suzuki proved to be up to the task against Ducati and Honda: everyone the world cannot say the same now … much to the dismay of Yamaha officials !
Andrea Iannone’s podium – her third this season – nonetheless spells the end of the regulatory advantages granted to the GSX-Rs: Suzuki has in fact reached six concession points by including in the calculation the two other podiums signed by Rins in then .
The Hamamatsu coat of arms therefore loses the right to carry out tests without counting with its titular pilots and that of developing its 4-cylinder in-line until the end of the season. According to Davide Brivio, manager of the official team, this aspect will not however affect the progression curve of Suzuki. Not sure the Yamaha riders – them again! – would see it the same way…
"The most important thing is to think race by race", concludes Iannone, 9th in the provisional ahead of Rins, who is afraid of the next meeting in two weeks in Thailand: "I had had a little trouble there during the winter tests, while Alex was on the contrary quite fast ", worries the n ° 29…
