GP de France MotoGP – Marquez: "My goal was 4th or 5th place"
A French Grand Prix to be urgently forgotten for Marc Marquez: faulty 11 laps before the finish, the reigning world champion retrograde to fourth place in the provisional championship ! Conversely, his teammate Dani Pedrosa pulled out the fire with a podium which allowed him to climb to second place in the standings! MNC Statements and Analysis.
Marc Marquez, Repsol Honda (5th in qualifying and retirement in the race) : "It is clear that today was not our best day. It’s a shame, because I was really focused on my goal of finishing the race. Since yesterday I do not feel totally at home. comfortable with the front and it looks like the first sector was really not my favorite this weekend! I knew my pace and knew the Yamaha riders were stronger today but my goal was to fight for 4th or 5th place and to be competitive until the end ".
"I tried to be careful but I lost the front very suddenly. I did not expect this mistake but luckily we are not too far just 27 points behind the leader. I hope that I ‘will have a better feeling up front with the new tire that Michelin will bring. We have to work hard to try to get back up but I intend to do better in the next races ".

Site analysis : The two falls of Marc Marquez during the practice of the GP of France were obviously not enough to curb the ardor of the title holder in the race … The Honda official went to the fault in the Dunlop chicane at 11 laps of the finish, while he was in 4th place behind the Yamaha of Viñales, Zarco and Rossi without managing to keep up with their impressive pace (Viñales and Rossi fell below the previous lap record in the race). "At one point, the Yamaha accelerated and I lost contact", he laments..
At this moment, not only the n ° 93 had understood that this trio of Yamaha was heading towards a full box (which will end in "short" box for the Doctor!) But he especially saw an orange rocket melting on him. and black: the RC213V of his teammate Dani Pedrosa, back from the devil-vauvert since his 13th place on the grid! The meteoric rise of n ° 26, third driver below the previous lap record, would it have given rise to some pressure on Marc Marquez? Still, his loss of the front came in stride !

With this fall, Marquez adds a second bubble to his rather chaotic start to the season: 3rd in Qatar, the Spaniard then fell in Argentina before redeeming himself by signing victory in Austin (United States) and a second place in Jerez (Spain). This second fault is costing him dearly: he who had returned to third place at 4 points from the former leader, Rossi, finds himself fourth at 27 lengths from the new leader of the classification, Maverick Viñales (85 pts Vs 58). Either a big victory difference between the two Spaniards !
Marquez also sees his teammate Dani Pedrosa supplanting him in the provisional, by moving up to second place with ten points ahead of n ° 93 (68 pts). In short, the weekend in the Sarthe turns into punishment for the reigning world champion, who now hopes to take advantage of the front tire with a more rigid carcass, the introduction of which will be effective from the next race at Mugello (Italy).
Michelin announced this weekend at Le Mans its decision to add this tire, already used during tests in Valencia (Spain), after an almost unanimous vote of the pilots. Among those who are against, Jorge Lorenzo is the most annoyed by this change because he prefers the current solution which gives him more grip in the middle of the curves. Still, this new tire may not solve all the concerns of Marc Marquez, who admitted not feeling a huge gain after having re-tested it in Jerez (Spain)…
