San Marino MotoGP GP – Lorenzo (crash): "The victory was playable"
Jorge Lorenzo records his second white result in thirteen races in Misano (after the one in Argentina), following a high side that occurred when the Ducati official was leading the 2017 San Marino GP very comfortably…. MNC declaration and analysis.
Jorge Lorenzo, Ducati (5th in qualifying and retirement after a crash in the race) : "This fall is a real shame. The bike was running very well and I was riding" wisely ". I tried not to take too many risks in order to spare my tires. Unfortunately, at one point I was distracted by the ‘for a very short time when I wanted to change the mapping, I used the rear brake in a very slightly different way and that was enough to go highside "…
All change at the front! is launched from his Ducati and out of the lead!
– MotoGP ™ (@MotoGP)
"I’m very disappointed because I think there was a way to play for the win. Instead, I had to give up … When I was in the air, I couldn’t believe it But when you run in the rain it can happen … It’s racing and I have to accept that this kind of thing can happen ".

Site analysis: As Jorge Lorenzo, annoyed, admits bluntly when leaving Misano, his mistake in the seventh lap cost him his potential first victory over Ducati … Party (as in Montmelo, Brno and the Red Bull Ring), the Mallorcan had demonstrated insolence ease in the wet and had more than 4 seconds lead on the 6th lap !
Very fast and sure of himself – probably too much given the conditions – this Lorenzo flying above the waves quickly came down to earth, both literally and figuratively! Distracted by his change of engine "map", the five-time world champion made a mistake in the dreaded corner n ° 6, which had turned into a real ice rink on which many pilots lost their skate Latin !
However, can we really blame Lorenzo for having sinned by excess of zeal? Him to whom many predicted a season spent at the back of the grid in a very physical Ducati? Certainly no! Because Jorge Lorenzo tries, forces his nature (the wet conditions are far from suitable for him) and pushes his motorcycle to the limit, even if it means overtaking it and ending up with his nose in the gravel !
So, of course, the former Yamaha rider has only had one podium – third in Jerez – since joining the Reds, a very meager harvest compared to the four victories won by his teammate Andrea Dovizioso on the same bike. Not to mention the three podiums signed by Danilo Petrucci on his private GP17, the last of which in Misano just behind Marquez…

Obviously, the three-time MotoGP world champion – 9th overall – still has a good margin for improvement! But who would have bet on his presence at the forefront, at least at the start of the race, when he signed for Ducati after nine seasons on a Yamaha much better suited to his sunk riding? Not many people, let’s face it !
