Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally in the driving report
Adventure bike for independent free spirits

It is said that he combined all of this to form the beautiful island of Sardinia. Something for all the senses. Aprilia also has a lot up its sleeve, the sporty brand with 54 world championship titles can also do tourism. This is supposed to be the A.prilia Caponord 1200 Rally prove here. Adventure bike for independent free spirits
Caponord 1200 Rally appear more coherent. Lots of goodies complete the pretty tourer with an enduro look: The typical Aprilia front with three headlights is protected by a surrounding crash bar with additional LED headlights, and the driver is protected by the larger window. Plastic engine guards and hand protectors ensure a thirst for adventure. Aluminum lids make the narrow hard-shell cases from Givi chic. Long stretches of the motorway can be handled stress-free with the cruise control. For 16,390 euros tutto completti, only the main stand and heated grips cost extra.
A real feel-good V2
The 90-degree V2 wakes up with a robust punch and full staccato. It’s hammering hard from the airbox. The hydraulic coupling needs a little manual force and can be dosed moderately. The gearbox of the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally works unobtrusively. Even on 2000 tours, the 1.2-liter V2 runs nice and smooth despite the huge 106 pistons. Aprilia has the coordination of dual ignition, dual injectors and ride-by-wire well under control. From 3000 rpm there is punch, switching speed 4000 fits on tour. A new exhaust collector should make the torque fuller at low and medium speeds, by up to ten Newton meters.
Unchanged are a maximum of 125 hp at 8000 rpm and 115 Nm at 6800 rpm. At around 5000 tours, the exhaust flap opens: The sound is now spluttering. Above the 6000 mark, the ultra-short stroke really gets down to business. This is an emotional, characterful drive, a real feel-good V2. Yes, it pulsates a little, that’s how it should be! Three driving modes control the two 52 millimeter throttle valves: The touring mode of the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally fits perfectly with even throttle response. The sport mode reacts more directly to gas commands, the rain mode more gently with power reduced to 100 hp.

Also something for people under 1.75 meters
The three-stage, adapted traction control of the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally reaches level 1 for loose ground noticeably later. In addition, they can be exhibited entirely. The on-board electronics control rapid interventions using spark plugs and injection nozzles. If this is not enough, the ride-by-wire imperceptibly closes the throttle valves. The very wide and high handlebars are great to hand. The comfortable bench is cut nice and narrow in the front area. This means that people under 1.75 meters can safely get both the soles of their feet on the ground. Even so, even tall guys find a good knee grip. Tilted up with knurled screws, the disc shields without turbulence.
In the countless corners of Sardinia you can drive dizzy. Street-oriented Metzeler Tourance Next give good feedback and stick securely. Judging by the huge lever arm of the handlebars and the great tires, the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally is no handling miracle. You have to work a little in fast alternating curves, notices the 275 kilograms with a full 23.5 liter tank. Impressive for how stubborn and precise the Aprilia stays on course. It plows through waves breaking asphalt as unimpressed as a tanker through heavy seas, that creates trust.
Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally looks a bit rear-heavy
The great adaptive chassis offers litter-like suspension comfort. The fully electronically controlled dampers (Aprilia Dynamic Damping, ADD) work very sensitively. The Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally makes the most of moderate 170 and 150 millimeters of travel front / rear. It safely absorbs and levels even the roughest hits and deepest bumps. The semi-active Sachs damper elements at the front and rear do not have any presetting, they act automatically. They react automatically to changes in position and driving conditions: when accelerating, they increase the pull damping at the front and the pressure damping at the rear in order to maintain balance. Conversely, when braking, they increase the compression damping at the front and the pulling damping at the rear. From fully open to fully closed within a hundredth of a second.
The electronically adjustable spring base at the rear knows four levels – depending on the load (solo / luggage, pillion / luggage). And a fifth as an automatic level control. But this makes the Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally a bit rear-heavy, with a moderate feel for the front wheel. Pumping up at the push of a button while standing still helps even in solo operation: the freedom of leaning and handling are impressive. Now the footrests grind later, the Aprilia becomes more agile. Overall, the front looks soft. After manual tensioning, there is less movement in the front, and the feedback is better.
One-piece Brembo calipers decelerate safely. But the pressure point is rather diffuse. Multimedia: A smartphone can be docked to the on-board electronics, expanding the on-board computer. Then the display reports the current power and torque output, lean angle or consumption. In addition, the mobile phone can mutate into a navigation system, including a search function for the parked bike and distance display to the eponymous North Cape. A calculator on wheels. The Aprilia Caponord 1200 Rally opens up new horizons even without such gimmicks.
