Patent drawings confirm production model
Aprilia presented a new concept bike at EICMA 2019: the Aprilia Tuono 660 is the bare version of the RS 660 and will almost certainly come as a production model in 2020. Patent drawings that have now emerged fuel this assumption again.
With the Tuono 660 takes place A.prilia is a relatively logical step and provides the RS 660 with a bare sister on the same technical basis. At the moment, however, this is a relatively near-series concept bike. By the way, Aprilia was already pursuing a similar strategy with the RS, which was also initially presented as a concept bike and is now available as a series model at EICMA. Accordingly, the Tuono 660 is also powered by the new and Euro 5-compliant Aprilia series twin. In contrast to the RS 660, which, according to the current press release published in the course of EICMA, is supposed to produce 100 hp, the Tuono 660 should only have 95 hp. However, it could very well be possible that this will change again with the production model – Aprilia also stated 95 hp for the RS in the concept stage. Incidentally, a polished aluminum solution is used for the frame and swing arm.
48 hp version also in the starting blocks
Technically, the two bikes should hardly differ from each other. The situation is different when it comes to ride comfort and the seating position: Due to the design, the rider should sit a little more relaxed on the naked bike. Accordingly, Aprilia donated the Tuono a wider handlebar. In general, Aprilia mentions in the press release that the Tuono should be a little more suitable for use on public roads – nevertheless, more sporty journeys should also be possible without restrictions.

The new Tuono 660 is technically based on the RS 660.
There is also good news for all A2 license holders: The Aprilia Tuono 660 will also be launched as a 48 hp variant. Visually, Aprilia has opted for a black base coat with some red and gray-silver elements for the Tuono 660. The concept bike is still missing mirrors and indicators, which is not unusual. LED lighting elements are also on board. Similar to the RS, the Tuono is also to be equipped with a new aerodynamic system, which is not only noticeable in a positive way at fast speeds, but is also supposed to keep the heat developed by the motorcycle away from the driver as effectively as possible. For the brakes, Aprilia opted for a 320 double disc brake system and radially mounted brake calipers from Brembo. In addition, the Italian manufacturer has given the naked bike adjustable suspension elements, lots of assistance systems such as ABS cornering, traction and wheelie control and a digital TFT color display. In general, the Tuono and the RS should not excel and benefit from each other in terms of electronics package, assistance systems and other comfort features.
Series model should come in 2020
Finally, some good news: As our Italy correspondent Eva Breutel found out from a reliable source, the Tuono 660 should soon be implemented as a series model. Just about two months after the Aprilia RS 660, which is due to arrive in summer 2020, the Tuono 660 should also roll out to dealers. Due to the Corona crisis, however, it is quite possible that the dates could be postponed a little. Patent drawings that have now emerged from an application to the European Patent Office confirm this assumption again. The patent drawings also show minor changes to the concept bike. If you look closely, you will see, for example, minor changes to the exhaust system and even minor adjustments to the fairing.

Piaggio has not yet published a potential price. According to rumors, a third version with the new 660 engine is said to be in the starting blocks, which is to be called Tuareg and can be classified more in the adventure bike category. Unfortunately, there is currently no explicit information about the new bike.
Conclusion
Aprilia is giving all Aprilia fans who may have liked the concept of the RS 660 but who can only make friends with the design to a limited extent, now another interesting alternative in the naked bike format. It should also be noted on the positive side that a 48-hp version is also planned for owners of the A2 driving license.
